I’d be ecstatic with a lot less than that number and I have the same truck. I just wonder if the tires could make that much difference. I hate to spend a 1000 bucks on tires just to experiment!

almost 7k miles in my sport and i'm actually still impressed with the mileage i'm getting. don't keep much track of city mileage, but like others said, stick to 60 and under in highway and you can start seeing great results. i usually get over 25 if i do that with my best being 27.8. if i ever need to pop off and fly in the freeway though, i'm looking at 20-23... which is not that bad either imo

I am averaging somewhere around 18-21 depending on many many variables with the digital readout on dash. To me that’s 100% acceptable. However driving on I-22 from my house to Birmingham at 70 mph..... mpg goes out the door. The digital readout read somewhere around 19.8 when I left jasper. When we back to jasper the readout was 16.9. Good news is I rarely drive the truck on interstate so 18-21 will typically be my average.

Curious though.... these mpg conversations come up very often for second gen owners? I had a 2015 Tacoma but was an sr5 so not sure if any other trim showed digital readout of the mpg on the truck. I honestly have zero knowledge of the average fuel mileage on my previous truck in the 4-1/2 years I owned it.

I think I have a good drive for the truck. I go like 40 mph in morning rush hour on surface streets with just a few stops and then 55-60 mph on freeway. Seems to be good speeds for efficiency. I have a road trip in a couple weeks and will see how it goes then. Problem is I’ll have about 800lbs or so in the bed so that will throw it off.

I fell as though adaptive cruise control also kills your MPG if you’re in any sort of slight traffic as the transmission likes to go from 4-5th gear a lot.

I don't think OP ever responded with where they're driving. I average somewhere around 21.5 and can get a lot better when easy on the throttle. Climbing is where I see mpg fall off quickly.. If someone is only getting 14 mpg in this truck then they're most likely drivin' like they stole it, going up mountainous terrain, hauling a 3500 lb trailer, sporting 5.29 gears and/or pedaling around their 35" swamp tires.

if you sit in traffic or drive throughs or warm up the car your mpgs will tank.
i know even in drive throughs my wifes hybrid can drop the trip mps to high 20s. Where it usually sits at high 30s low 40s.

yea try it yourself. fill up, go driving like 10 minutes get that sweet 22mpg. then go sit and park. you'll be shocked at how fast it drops. in minutes you'll be at 14 -13.

Drove from boise to Sacramento yesterday with 1,000 pounds of books in the bed and got 21.4 mpg for the entire route. Mostly between 65-75 mpg. Up to 1300 miles on the truck. Happy with that mpg given the numerous elevation changes.

What this means is we need more lanes for cars = more speed = better mileage = healthier planet. To hell with bike lanes.

Lots of short distance examples given, those really don’t count (although I can’t reproduce them either). I can get 18 mpg on my computer but may calculator doesn’t agree with the computer at all. Maybe it’s my math!
