Thinking about trading in for a Tundra

Just looking for something bigger but sticking with Toyota hence the choice for the Tundra. Looking at a 2011 Tundra 4X4 CrewMax 5.7L. Dealer offered me $18,000 for my Tacoma. I still owe $11,000. Thoughts? Mods my truck has in my sig.

 

18000 for exactly the way it is? Youve done quite of bit to that taco and its badass man! if you could get 18000 for it stock and take off all the after market stuff and sell seperately. I think the tundra is badass man either way you cant go wrong imo. Sine you owe 11k and can get 18k I honestly dont think its worth it.

 

My big thing is I want 4x4. I pondered the idea of getting a new Tacoma w/ 4x4, but i kinda like the idea of a larger truck. I plan to get a boat in the next year and want something stronger to pull it. I know the Tacoma can do it, but not as great when the only drive wheels are under water.

Yah its 18K as is. There are even more mods than are listed in my sig, but electronics stuff is being pulled out and put back to stock regardless. I wish I still had most of the stock stuff laying around to swap back. I think I am going to swap my rims and tires to the Tundra. They can have to old Tundra ones for the Tacoma.

 

Yah I know the gas is going to be worse. Now you guys got me thinking if it would be worth to see if they would have given me 18K regardless of mods. I actually do still have the stock suspension. There is some good money there. Actually damn just remembered i got rid of the old leaf springs.

 

I think 18k is nice but you still owe 11k. Maybe you can find some stock parts people will trade you and pay extra youll be making money off of it. If your going to get a boat I would get a tundra they are hella nice wish i could afford one. I think it would be worth it selling it and selling the after market products.

 

The way I look at it is yah I owe 11K, but that still gives me 7K in equity from what they plan to give me for it that will bring down the amount I have to finance on the Tundra. Part of me just doesn't want to mess with swapping suspension stuff back to stock. It was a pain enough installing it the first time.

 

I think its nice to have a 4x4 and if your going to have to do it over again might as well do it big and get a tundra 4x4 instead of another tacoma. IMO to much time and sweet and some blood went into my taco I wouldnt wanna put it into another. I would put the blood into the new tundra! When it comes down to it its your choice man. Tundras are badass definitely switch the wheels and tires!. Parting out aftermarket stuff would be nice but its completely up to you man! Tundras are straight badass!

 

I would do it assuming you can afford it. The Tundra is much more of a truck that can be used as a truck, and gas mileage is going to be slightly worse, but not drastic (our trucks don't sip gas, either).

 

Your wheels won't fit on the Tundra...

07-11 Tundra = 5 lugger
05-11 Tacoma = 6 lugger

 

He will list it for 22-23k, I would not take an auction price given what you have in it. 18k sounds really low for what you have in it.
I might suggest you consider a private sale, We (the country) are in some tight financial times right now. I would weigh any type of large purchase very carefully given this. I would probably keep the Taco, pay it off and then deal or sell it outright. I am sure you know,trades are a win win for the dealers. Best of luck with your decision.

For what its worth...I use to own an an 02 Tundra ( traded it for this Taco I have now with 268000 miles on it) . MUCH better truck than the Taco. A really sturdy truck

And just drove a rental 2010 Tundra ( while my Taco was in the shop) and LOVED it....!!

No comparison !!! Better and tighter truck....gas mpg was ALOT closer than I thought it would be...they have really improved the Tundra..if I had the $$ I'd go back to it in a second....

But this is all just MY opinion

 

If you decide to part out, i will take the 3" all pro leaf packs and swap mine with or without the AAL.
I'll also trade you seuspension set ups that are in my sig + some $ if youre interested

I've heard the Tundra's transmission sucks... otherwise, I liked it when I test drove it. Lots of power, better interior. It is ugly as sin though.

 

You saying the truck itself is ugly?

 

Ive driven many tundras (regular cab 2wd, regular cab 4wd, 4.7,5.7, Double cabs, crew maxs etc) and the power is great, but I find that they feel very cheaply built. 5 lug hubs, cheap plastics, the way the doors shut close feel like they will wobble off one day. I love Toyota trucks but i don't feel that the Tundra is the best full size 1/2 ton truck out there right now for the money. IMO

 

i have been thinking the same thing about trading mine in on a tundra but i have about 3k in mods done to my tacoma and it is going to cost another 3k to make the tundra the way i want it with the leveling kit and wheels and tires so i decided to keep the tacoma. the tacomas look way better anyway the tundras are kinda ugly
