Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Might be buying another Tacoma soon, this is a 2005 TRD O/R DC with a 6 speed manual and 162k miles. I have a first gen DC now and so I don't know much about the 2nd gens, anything I need to watch out for? Heard they have problems with the throwout bearing on the manuals, is this a big expensive problem to fix or is it fairly easy?
If I buy this I'll be taking over it and my wife will get the 04 DC because she can't drive manual and I need a 4x4 for traveling for work in the winter since she won't drive my FWD car in the snow. Also do they have the frame rot problems that plagued the first gens also? I'll be checking that over with a ball peen hammer to be sure.

163k miles, my bad! Lol, nearly the same miles as my 04 actually.

It looks pretty clean for the age and mileage. I loved my ‘05, had it from 2014-2018. Mine was an auto but also a silver double cab TRD OR.

I would have the Toyota place look at it before you buy. Mine needed about $1400 worth of work including a transmission flush and spiral cable. It had 140k when I got it.

Oh yeah, I used to live in Billings. Taco is an awesome winter rig for Montana!

get a mechanic to do the inspection as you do it on any other used vehicle, ask for the maintenance history, and yes the frame 05-10 model years rust like crazy. Toyota even had a frame recall program for it. Check the frame frame frame!!!

Search this forum for “2005 4.0 Head Gasket”...

Factor in potential head gasket replacement in your negotiations.

Timing cover leak is another common problem with the 05.

Correct about the TOB. My ‘07 has the chirp & it has 140k on it. Parts would be around 800 if you get a clutch kit along with a URD TOB. The chirp honestly isn’t that bad, but that’s just my .02 cents.

Most just ignore the chirping tob. None of the fixes are gurantees, even urd doesnt claim to be a 100% fix. There havent been any reports of catastrophic failures or anything that Ive read on here so like I said, just ignore it.

A 05 with that many miles, I’d walk away.... way too much risk for that year, age, mileage, and for $14k....nah. Offer $7k if you really want it

05s are known for head gasket issues, caved in motor mounts, frame rust issues, and transmission issues on the early RA60F transmissions. Make sure you bring it to a mechanic to check all those things. If all those clear, it looks pretty clean for a 14 year old truck.

Way too much money, considering you could be coming up on head gasket issues at 173K miles. That's the mileage that many 05-early06 headgaskets fail. Also, that looks like it's lifted pretty high. It might have a drop bracket lift. Also, the unpainted gas door doesn't say much for the previous owner.

Too high miles, regardless of year model for me. Personally, spend more for a lower mileage truck that's stock and build it properly. Not sure if it was lifted properly and any issues you will encounter with it. It also has rear bumper damage with some body rust in that area. I would pass.

Head gasket problems possibly and a timing belt.newer models switched to chains one of the reasons I bought a 10
