    There are two separate issues. The oil seal leak could be caused by a bad pinion bearing and the howl could be because of a bad pinion bearing. But the howl could be caused by other things as well.

    How many miles on the 3rd since it was regeared?

    235k miles. Cheap. Needs to get me through the rest of the year. Rebuilding my current engine this winter is the tentative plan.

    I don't see how these issues could be related to simply installing a 3rd. I'm thinking these problems were already present in the used 3rd you got.

    I’ve been doing that for years now! It’s a simple engine. Really a fun place me to do a quick rebuild on if your your first time doing so. Not much you can mess up.

    Yea I kinda regret pulling mine apart. I ended up not using any of the original parts other than the cams. She had a lot of life left. Damn bolt hole for the blower was stripped out though. I still have a brand new in box trd blower waiting for the new engine (I’ll do a rebuild on the original eventally. Now I also have a comeplete 3.4 with 250k on it from a rolled over 4runner I got for free. Going to use it to test the 3vz cams)

    All ext and double cabs have the same tank(same frame). 18.5 gal.

    Single cabs have a 16 due to smaller frame.

    Well my gas gauge must be off then . I've had the light on and only managed to get 16 in it. Guess I'm not brave enough to run it completely dry.

    When the light comes on you still have ~2 - 3 gallons left. It's like that for all vehicles, otherwise people would be stranded on the side of the road left and right having run out of gas lol.
