Why don't they just limp that thing out? Shit's already broke. Or drive a good truck down to the entrance and pull a shock to get the broke truck to the pavement.

best help I can offer is to take the replacement out there.

You shouldn't need an entire replacement shock in the field unless your setup is wrong, which it is in this situation. I'm all for having the tools and some parts required to repair a shock in the field if needed but an entire shock seems excessive IMO.

 

Looks like he got a replacement heading his way. That should get him home.

 

Pull the bad shock out.
Add block of wood between the bump stop and the LCA, add a strap to keep it secured. Should be drivable out to the trail head.

Yes, very doable but I don't carry a block with me on the trail.

 

There is a massive difference between what I would carry on a trek through the African plain and an easy Offroad trail an hour from a major city.
