The very first mod I did to my 3rd gen was a speaker upgrade. I also laughed when I pulled the stock door speakers. There was nothing to them. I threw them right in the garbage because I knew there wouldn't be a resale market for them. I went with the Kicker door speakers and Subaru Tweeters in the dash.

Hell yeah I could already tell just from the noise the door made (or didn't make) when closing it.

The factory speakers are laughably pathetic. I might upgrade the tweeters later on, but the speakers I went with have tweeters included as well.

Got any head units brands/models you would recommend for the 2nd Gens?

I will ABSOLUTELY keep this in mind. Even the additional little dongles, doo-dads, and blinky boxes that make steering wheel controls, Bluetooth phone connectivity and all that shit working seamlessly?

I have the alpine halo 9 inexpensive model and love it. I really wish I would have went for the more exspensive one with hdmi input and maestro input. It's over 1000$ so I passed. You can get all the engine data to display on the radio.

I would look around for a less exspensive model that can do the maestro adapter.

I get just about everything from crutchfield. last time I was on the phone with tech support the guy offered me a job after we had been talking about splicing the factory wiring into the head unit for a back up camera.

Cut those spades off and solder the wires to the speakers. Those spades suck and never last long. Plus soldering is the only positive connection as far as I'm concerned.

Little of this and a little of that
Is it noticeable difference in sound? I pretty much know nothing about audio stuff but if its worth it I may go for it. I definitely want something better than the factory stuff.

Hell yeah. Great bang for your buck. Sound deadening material is great to minimize road noise and I was going to do that regardless. Probably more useful for a system with larger subwoofers though.

In my opinion it's definitely worth the $115 and then some. Huge upgrade if your truck didn't come with the JBL setup. Just don't expect teeth-rattling bass since there is no amp involved and it's still running off the factory head unit.
