@1997tacomav6 I appreciate the incite immensely! That is absolutely the route I will be going! I love this truck, even if its been a giant pain in my ass these last few months haha. Do you happen to have the link or remember the TW member for the rolled Seattle truck?

@1997tacomav6 you're the man thank you! They are closed today but I will definitely be calling them first thing in the morning! It is still listed on their website so that is promising! The naive coming out in me again, but will I run into any issues with needing an 04 ECU or the fact that my truck is a manual 4x4?

@chrispchicken9 its funny you recommend Ryan because I spoke with him on Friday and he is the exact person I will be taking it to!

No, you will have zero issues, you can swap what ever parts you need from your old engine,
But you will want to use as much from the new motor because of the miles

Because this motor only has 67,000 you don’t actually have to do the timing belt stuff unless you want to for another 30,000 miles. See if you can get the complete motor with fuel injectors, coils, alternator, power steering, oil cooler etc because of the miles

Going back to the original post.

1 cylinder was low compression? Are you sure you just don't need to have the valves looked at?

@1997tacomav6 Roger that! Thank you for the reassurance! Seems like I should just scoop up as much off of it as possible? From the way I see it on the website, they're selling the entire truck for $2500.

@chrispchicken9 The fact that a TW member can vouge for that I do no doubt it!

@koditten Not completely sure! I am extremely novice when it comes to car mechanics. Is that something a mechanic can easily diagnose?

An average mechanic should be checking if there is a stuck valve. Especially when only one cylinder is reporting low compression.

170k is small miles for the 3.4 even with a charger.

@tyluda make sure they sell you the engine with the headers. Look like TRD or doug thorley headers. And once you take them off ship to my address ;)
or sell them to make some money back. But better if you just ship them to me lol

    Update!

Talked with the dealer @1997tacomav6 recommended about the rolled Tacoma with the 66k mile engine! They sent videos of it running and it sounds impeccable! Also confirmed the headers are indeed TRD which I have been looking for aswell because the current headers on mine (Doug Thorley) are not California legal (sorry @BlackPearl you can have my Doug Thorley ones though!) so a win-win situation thus far! They're asking 3500 for everything (full exhaust system and complete engine, and accessories) does that sound reasonable? @chrispchicken9 Ryan quoted 2500-3000 for the install, that dude is the man! so things are really looking up! from 9200 to 6000, all thanks to this awesome forum! So thank you, guys!

I did have two curve balls thrown at me though.

number one! getting all the parts from Pheonix up to me in Northern California. They said they will take all the parts off for me and pallet them up but that Ill be in charge of shipping. any ideas for that?

number two! I have been told that the engine has been running without skipping a beat after they unplugged the 7th injector from the sc. They're saying they suspect it's stuck open and flooding the engine and then Ryan of Yotaluma is saying 158 psi shouldn't be enough to cause the engine to run bad, at least noticeably. And that he has a hunch it might not be engine related or there is definitely something else adding to it. so that's a big one. should I do the swap now when I've found the perfect engine and have the money saved to do so? Or as Ryan suggested, take out the URD 7th injector and test my luck with possibly being the big issue. Ryan also definitely recommended the sc rebuild if I want to keep it on the truck.

It sounds like a lot of money but it really is not. The TRD headers probably have less than 50,000
and that means there worth 500-750 easily. So you can always sell those and lower your number to
2750.00. I had my engine swapped for 1500 plus misc parts of 500 , so if you wanted you could find someone else probably in the 2000 range.
    3000 sounds high
An engine that has 66,000 miles that has all documents is hard to find and you will be thanking yourself
for buying it once everything is installed and done.
You could rent a uhaul truck and pick everything up too.
If you could just buy the complete motor for 2500 would be better.
2000 you should be able to find someone to do the swap if you look,
An engine swap is not that hard to do on these trucks, a few full days of work with the right tools.
    2500+2000=4500

If you look at it this way a new Tacoma will cost you 750-1000 a month payment
and you still own nothing with depreciation and taxes after the 1st year.

So your on the right path

Well see what’s up with your motor, dude! Why shell out all that dough if ya don’t have to.

You’ve come to the right place here

    X2,
These motors don’t typically die at 170,000 miles.
Mine was superchargered it’s whole life and popped a head gasket at 480,000
    AND still burned NO oil.
Head gasket was NOT related to the supercharger.
But a motor replacement that had 90,000 miles for 1500 for me was the ticket And
1500 for installation with 500 for extra parts, clutch, timing stuff etc.
So it cost me 3500 total and change.
