UPS "delivered" & signed for, but didn't. Fell off truck or....?

I ordered some lights from Amazon that were supposedly delivered last Thursday. They even say "Baker" signed for it. Thing is, I was home all day and there was no UPS delivery, and no one named Baker here. Nor are any of my nearest neighbors named Baker.

So my guess is one of two things happened; the driver made up the signature and it "fell off the truck", or it was delivered to another house and the people there, even after seeing my name and address, decided to keep it rather than drop it off. Issues with our UPS driver have been numerous lately. Either way, fuckers.

I'm in the midst of a remodel that's weeks behind schedule and now it's 4 or 5 more days added to that. Amazon expected me to wait 36 hours to see if it showed up - I waited 1 day and asked for a refund then had to order again. It's now being shipped via USP service. I imagine it will bounce around the country for a week or so before it possibly arrives. Sigh.

Just a rant but I wonder how often does this happen and do they investigate or just write off the loss and move on? Rubs me the wrong way, sticks in my craw, etc. Has anyone else had a similar situation and found out what really happened?

Sorry. I've had UPS stuff "delivered" but actually not. Then 3 days later it shows up. They have been good recently though. Hope you get your lights, and also fuck you Baker.

Sometimes delivered means delivered to the USPS. It might be at your local post office and will get to you in a day or two. Amazon does that alot.

UPS I trust in delivering items I purchase and never had any issues with them . Now don't get me started with Ontrac !!!!:rant:. They've screwed me over so many times delivering parts I've ordered online

One time they delivered to the wrong address leaving $4500 worth of parts from Summit racing to a house that was empty ( no one lived there)

Yeah but it shouldn't be signed for.

That's the thing that gets me, it wasn't like someone stole it off my porch - it was supposedly signed for for "Baker". So it was either delivered to the wrong house or the driver made up a name (either lost the package or took it). Can't think of anything else it could be.

Anyway, got a refund (pending) and bought replacements. Still doesn't sit right but nothing I can do about it.

I believe when UPS transfers to USPS there is a signature involved. The same thing happened to me when I ordered my bed mat off of Amazon. UPS tracking said delivered and signed by Gomez, then a day or two later it was delivered by USPS.

The tracking number starts with 1Z. Was it handed off to USPS? Who knows, the tracking info doesn't say. I get deliveries from the brown UPS truck all the time, but occasionally it does get handed to USPS. I've seen USPS packages bounce around the country before getting to me, but this one hasn't had anything past Delivered. And they did refund my money and I ordered a new one. So it's all good.

I guess it's still possible but it's been 6 days, so... probably not.

Not entirely sure what you saying here. I realize you don't know me but I'm not the kind of guy who steals stuff (and keeping what I didn't pay for is stealing).

They don't give you a picture of the signature- just says signed by Baker.

So whatever happened, happened. I've been made whole, a bit of a delay in the project (not critical), and someone either made an honest mistake or compromised their morals for some LED lights. Time to move on to closet door installation!

UPS has always been good with me, however, I've had numerous issues with Fedex, from them losing my package but then claiming it was delivered to the right address after I filed a claim, (I even have a doorbell camera) to a driver calling me starting the conversation with "Bro, I can't find your house and I'm in a hurry" Anytime I purchase something online and I see it was shipped via Fedex I track it like a hawk.

You'll get horror stories with any of them. USPS, UPS, and Fedex. Take your chances. Actually with as much as they ship they all do pretty good.

My horror story is a $600 McMillan rifle stock I sold and shipped to Raleigh NC. USPS tracking said it was delivered. The buyer didn't have it and I was told I had no insurance claim since it was delivered. Figuring it had been stolen off the guys front porch I contacted the local PD and filed a theft report. The investigator took everything serious by calling and e-mailing me about the situation several times. After he called the local USPS they "found" the stock and delivered it 2 weeks after their tracking claimed they had.

Id take a drive around your neighborhood and see if any one has new lights on their vehicle or if your box is still sitting at someones house. Same thing happened to me. The Fed Ex dumped my bike carrier in the condos behind us where I found it still sitting by someones door. He claimed I signed for it.
I work on the docks and see UPS drivers forging our names all the time because they wont wait if someone is in front of them. Most couriers are doing this.

The UPS employee would have to be an idiot to commit fraud on the job. Last thing I ordered and it said it needed a signature. It didn't and was delivered.

This has happened to me. Used to get stuff delivered to my work because when I’m not home I can’t sign for it. During a busy holiday season a bunch of new fedex guys got into the same route. Delivered my package to another office and some girl signed for it. Hours pass by and I’m wondering where the hell it is. So I check tracking, says delivered, and signed for by an “Alicia”. No idea who the hell that is. So I go upstairs and sure enough my package has been cut open and thrown back outside. They couldn’t figure out what it was so it probably wasn’t worth stealing.

Funny thing is, these same people have stolen a package from me before. Never got my money back after filing a claim either.

3 years ago I ordered a 12v John Deere ride on tractor for my boy. I got the notification it was out for delivery, but was never delivered. The next morning I looked at the tracking and it was gone. No delivery notification, no returned to warehouse, just gone. Reported it to the company and they immediately shipped a new one along with creating a police report. UPS just flat out lost a big ass box and claimed they knew nothing. The second one was delivered no problem.

If it was an Amazon prime order, or sold/shipped by Amazon then they eat it. If it was fulfilled by someone else (Dobinsons for example), then they charge the seller for it (Dobinsons pays for it, as an example). Huge pain in the ass, having to rely on the courier to deliver it to the right place and get any kind of signature. We've even contested some of them with the guy's full signature clear as day, and he said he didn't get it, and we lost the case.

Anyway, I never have stuff shipped to my home, only to work, so that I'm not worried about not getting it. In our warehouse row, it will always be at a neighbors suite, worse case scenario, if it's not here.

    It's complicated.
I'm dealing with the very same thing right now.

UPS delivered a $780 camera kit to the UPS Store, which was promptly (and correctly) refused by the store staff. The package was sent back with the UPS driver, to be returned to the sending company. According to UPS, the driver was supposed to re-scan the original tracking number, which would create a new (return) tracking number, which would then put the package back into the system. That didn't happen.

The package became "lost" for a little over a month--and only after numerous & repeated complaint calls (by me) did UPS finally agree to start an investigation. 8 days later, they suddenly and mysteriously "found" the properly labeled & addressed package--in lost & found(!) They have since begun the return process, though I'm very skeptical of what will be delivered, and in what condition. I've asked the sender to take a smartphone video of the package & unboxing, when it arrives back.

You can draw your own theories, but I believe that the package was stolen by a UPS employee. That person likely held onto it, thinking that after a month it would be forgotten.

Yeah, I had a package marked as delivered that actually showed up 4 weeks later. 4 weeks! Where the heck was it? Maybe my dog hid it and played a joke on me?
