Factory flaw on the struts or on the Toyota? My hood didn't do this before I installed them.

For mine I don’t know why but the hood sits high on the drivers side already and haven’t put the struts on yet. It’s never been in an accident and I’ve seen this before so idk.

Ah I see. Well to be honest I didn't notice the flaw until after I installed the gas springs, so it's possible it was already like this before the install. I could pop the springs off and see next time I'm in there.

My truck had the engine replaced at one point, so it's possible they messed up the hood alignment during that job.

When hood is closed struts don't put any upward force on the hood. So even if hinges are messed up these struts will help from hood rattling but by pushing it forward (not upward).

For 95-96 the only better mod is replacing sealed headlights with H4 Hella (or Autopal ), for any other year (with newer reflectors) this is number one.

Thanks for this. I've read about this before so I was a little hesitant in following through.

Time to keep an eye out for a good deal on these.

^correct. When the hood is closed, the struts are pushing forward, not up, so there will be no lifting of the hood, unless something is way off.

@SpikerEng any plans to make an "ez" tailgate assist strut? I'm in Torrance and can be a donor 1st Gen.

That's interesting, and I do appreciate a local truck donor offer! At this point I'm focusing on hood struts, and the tailgate assist looks to be more complicated. But I'll definitely give you a shout if we decide to go in that direction

I couldn't agree more with this comment. I was trying out some new struts in the taco this past weekend, and had to open and close the hood the old fashioned way a few times. Reminded me of what a huge improvement hood struts make, and how most folks who put them in always say they wished they had done it sooner.
