so I have a weathered cowl from sun, rain, whatever elements aged it
and was trying the out product 303 UV protectant here to bring back the black luster to have a less weathered looking cowl.

when I got to doing the parts under the hood it just seemed that the various push-in clips for this were a bit loose.
this cowl has only been removed once (to the best of my knowledge) to replace the windshield at the beginning of this year.

I don't know how tight of a fit these clips are supposed to be? really snug or a little bit loose?

for most of this year I have been trying to self-diagnose a very annoying rattle I have not ever heard while on the highway. The flap flap flap noise starts at about 65~75 mph and seems to be coming into the vents behind the glovebox (i think) where the fresh air comes into the blending area

is it possible the that cowl clips are not fully and properly fastened to keep it from vibrating at high speed/wind noise and some echo is coming into the cabin

    :notsure: :help:

Hey Jay - The clips on mine are snug. I wouldn't call them being pressed in hard like the fender well cover clips, but they aren't letting the rubber weatherstripping on the cowl move to much.
Like yours, the plastic cowl on mine was faded, even after using the 303 UV Protectant on it for the life of the truck. About a year ago I removed mine and used SEM Trim Satin Black to repaint it. Turned out awesome!!

Here's a little bit better picture with the part numbers to the clips.

the rubber weather stripping (especially at the ends) i think is not very snug (the ends are quite loose and moveable) so now I think it was not reinstalled properly by the place that replaced my windshield

maybe the clips that go into grommets? (part# 90189-04184(6)) and were broken and this is why everything seems loose

@jammer , I can certainly look into trying some of that SEM Trim Satin Black to repaint it, do you know how it holds up to resist cracking, peeling with extreme temp changes, etc.
that product may also work on the tailgate latch, rear window metal frame, plastic parts in the door handles?

I did mine a little over a year ago, and haven't had any issues with peeling, etc. I'm probably preaching to the choir, but I did some prep before applying.
    • First used a gray scoth-brite pad
    • washed
    • wiped down with regular isopropyl alcohol to remove grease, and vinyl dressing
    • used the SEM Plastic Adhesion Promoter
    • Lastly, about 3 coats of SEM Trim Black.

Dupli-color also makes a trim paint (green can) that is about 1/2 the cost of the SEM products. I'm not sure how that product holds up.

... this was not the problem most likely, the vents were blown out last month and most of the noise mysteriously stopped, another 15k miles of hell :bananadead:, i imagine the rest of the cushion from the fresh air/recycle flapper lid whatever is the culprit and i will focus my labors to that part when the weather gets warmer

The part number you're asking about returns nothing in a Toyota Database search.
I assumed you just typoed and meant '90467-07045-22', I assumed this based on the matching numbers to the diagram posted above in thread. This '90467' number is common and you won't have a problem finding. It is used on 5 or 6 different Toyota models for securing that cowl piece.

FWIW my local PPG auto paint distributor that supplies the local body shops recommended this exact flat trim paint for sticking and lasting to my black plastic too. In contrast I have read a lot of comments that the Duplicolor stuff is not very good at resisting solvents like gas that might splash on it. It is also notable that the Duplicolor body colors are all intended to have a clear coat to protect it.
