Morning TTC! Had a good weekend and the best thing that started it off was passing my RHCSA :D! For those who dont know it's a technical certification that focuses on Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Next step is to start getting my Azure certs :D Trying to have the AZ-900(very basic even you guys could do it), AZ-103 (Admin level) and AZ-300 and AZ-301 (Solution Architect level) by the end of the year :bananadance:

Um, I might know some people you could float a resume to. We're always looking for RHEL folks.

Redhat?! Damn, haven't thought about that in a long time. When I was at TXST working on my CS degree our CS lab was all Redhat.

We're replacing Solaris and HP-UX with RHEL 7 as much as we can recode the applications for it. Some RHEL 6 (and a goddamn POS RHEL 5 application that we firewalled out) but mostly RHEL 7. Great for transitioning old mainframe apps onto. Stable and secure. Good stuff.

    5K servers worth, mostly VMs.

We have a lot of stuff here.

Unless theyre willing to pay for a Solution Architect with a focus in Openstack and OSP I think I'm over qualified :p Ive been working years with RHEL that I tell people it's my bread and butter at this point

It's pretty prevalent in the wild and I have a lot of customers using it. RHEL just released RHEL 8 and started using VDO (Virtual Disk Optimizer) which is bonkers. I heard yum was deprecated with DNF but the yum command in RHEL 8 is a wrapper for DNF

Yeah, no, you'd probably be starting off as a script monkey double-checking cron jobs.

I mean, it's a shitload of cron jobs, but still. I love how those boxes run themselves. Boot, slap all the monitoring tools on them, ignore them until something breaks.

RHEL 8, eh? That means we can expect a new baseline and DISA STIG to come out. Swell.

I don't even know what version of Redhat Enterprise we were using in 05-08.

I do remember we (other CS majors) would always get a good laugh out of a non CS student finding our computer lab and trying to use one of the computers... It was hilarious. Sometimes they would get upset and act out.

Hehe yea I was a scipt monkey years ago but not any more :p I did my times in the trenches :D

Yea I wouldnt look to move to RHEL 8 for a while but they should have the STIG out already since they have a large amount of Gov customers already. Probably buried somewhere in the KB

Fun fact, my first CS job after college, every 2 week sprint we would rotate a developer into the "Maintenance Monkey" role. All you did for 2 weeks was fix bugs etc. For this we had a stuffed monkey that would sit on your desk for those 2 weeks.

I'm very pleased that there are guys in the world like Sleipnir, CaptAmerica, and Medjah. You guys know stuff and do stuff that I have zero margin for. I appreciate that you guys understand each other and can do the stuff you do.

I moved to management over 10 years ago. I know all the words that @Sleipnir and @medjah use, but I stopped being the guy doing the work a long time ago.

I know enough now to know when I'm getting a line of BS or not.

I have been a Software Engineer just over 11 years now. I am hoping in the next few years to transition into either a Team Lead/Management role or possibly move in Sales Engineering.
