    PHOENIX -- Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has a new deputy.
    In a Twitter posted Thursday, Arpaio said, "Had lunch today with Ted Nugent and swore him in as a special deputy. Great guy." The message included a picture of Nugent, in camouflage fatigues, being sworn in at Arpaio's downtown Phoenix office.
    Nugent, a guitarist known as the "Motor City Madman" in his native Detroit, is known for his conservative political views and defense of hunting and gun ownership rights. He is a spokesman for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education, National Field Archery Association, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He has served on the board of directors of the National Rifle Association.
