Am I? Or is it something else? I've been missing my BMW lately.

I've had this 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road since October of 2018. I've spent a lot of money on modifications. I've put on the ARB Summit Bumper, ARB Summit Rails, ARB Summit Steps, ARB Summit rear bumper. I've done the OME 886 + 90000 lift to support these bumpers. I purchased two wheels and will purchase two more when they restock in ~30 days, I have not purchased tyres yet. I purchased a bed mat lol.

I have taken this vehicle off many several times, in the snow, on crazy bumpy trails, on the beach, etc. and I have had a lot of fun. I plan on taking it off road again. But I can't stop thinking about my old BMW.

    Help?

I’ve been thinking about getting a 2nd vehicle. It will make working on the truck easier because I won’t have to get it running in two days anymore (2 days being the longest I can go without a vehicle).

Before make any major decisions, ask yourself will the BMW make you happy for years to come, or will you soon find another pretty lady you have to have?
Either way is fine, I used to get car bored, and find a reason to get a new one every year or two. Of course I was also in much cheaper/older cars during all that swapping.

I've had my truck for almost 4 years now, and I still turn around and admire it for a second every time I park.

If you're missing that beemer, maybe you need to expand the garage!

Just like a Jeep, Tacomas have their following, the benefits and their faults. I couldn't live with the powertrain because at heart, I just wanted more. Nothing against the truck, I just bought something I thought I wanted and it ended up being that I wanted something else. Regardless, the Tacoma is how I met a bunch of my offroading and camping friends, so I'd never trade what the truck really got me for a million years, even thought I didn't like it and don't have it any longer.

It seems to me that people look for different things in their vehicles. I'm generally happy if it has the right number of wheels and a manual transmission. And even happier if its something I can work on. What is it you miss about the BMW?

I owned over 50 cars. I lust after one, get it, then lust after another. I also wish I still had half of them. Such is life.

The Tacoma is no BMW. The only thing the two have in common are the ability to take you from A to B. So in my opinion, you need one of each. Best of both worlds.

I had a BMW 335is. My wife drives it now so I have to drive my truck, which I do enjoy doing.

I suppose I miss the performance, the handling, and features such as leather seats, heated seats, moonroof - stuff I couldn't get with my truck because at the time (when the 2019's were rolling out) there was no double cab short bed manual in cement in the region with them. I work at Toyota dealer so I have access to the program which shows this and saw for myself what was out there during that time.

I suppose some people Just buy Tacomas blindly and won't look at anything else. When I was doing off-road in Las Vegas when I lived there I loved taking the Tacoma in the deep desert. I don't go off-road anymore. Maybe a few fire trails here and there. 4WD not needed

I used to be one of them blind buyers based purely on reputation .....If it's not quite the fit for you, sell it and buy that Beemer you're missing. I have not lost all faith in Tacoma but it will have to be completely redesigned including the drivetrain for me to trust Toyota again. Nothing is worse when spending tens of thousands buying a truck. Especially when paying cash. That's a pile of money to pay if you don't like the drivability from the get-go. Took me a year or so and an even trade for a 4Runner to get out of it. I sold the 4Runner soon after the Ranger came out. The dealer bought my 4Runner outright and I then paid for the Ranger in a separate deal. I actually got more for the 4Runner than I would have with the Tacoma.

I too have new vehiclitis. Every two or three years our garage gets new tenants. Probably One of the few here who don't keep $50 worth of junk piled in the garage and a $40,000 vehicles in the open air...

Just go trade it in and get a BMW again. The only time you will miss it is when you want to off road, drive in any substantial snow, or actually want to have fun.

So basically, I say wait until it’s paid off and buy another BMW

The reason I feel like I rushed into this is because I am leasing this vehicle (yes, I know, all the mods)... I was planning on leasing to buy, which costs more than financing but I was attracted to the $380/month payment with $0 down, which was more affordable for me at the time. Now I feel like I am stuck if I truly do regret this, or maybe I am going through a phase.

Remove unneeded weight and mods. Replace the suspension with digressive shocks and tune the lift at a medium level. Get lightweight wheels and expensive tires. Add a tune package or app. such as ShiftSense or OV. Drive much more aggressively on the pedal to keep rpms in the power stroke.

Also, park in no parking and across multiple parking spaces at busy locations. (Oops!)

Do you have room for two of your own cars?

Honestly I'd like several types of vehicles. But only have room for one vehicle for myself. So chose the one that would give me some utility value too.

It sounds like your vehicles are toys. I know some other people like that. They're a bit more on the impulsive side. Often getting the toys and vehicles that they want with the mentality that you only live once. Sometimes selling their current toy for pretty cheap just to get rid of it. They're not rich too. So it's not like money is easy for them to come by.

Doesn't seem the most financially responsible thing to do. But they seem to be doing okay. Enjoying life, family is doing well, etc. And you see how they're enjoying life, maybe there's something to their mentality and lifestyle.

So if you can afford it and want another toy, go ahead and get that other toy you want.

It sounds like you are torn between two opposite interests as far as vehicles go. Think about what you really want to do with your vehicle and go from there. I'm not sure what else to say.... do you like a performance, comfort, street vehicle or something that is slow but will last you 300k and take you places off the beaten path?
