So back in March I painted my tail pipe and I just noticed today that all the paint was gone. I have driven it maybe 1200 miles since March. Anyone know what other paint I should use? I really liked the black look.

I used Rust-Oleum 248938 Automotive Rust Preventive Engine Enamel Spray Paint. It's supposed to be good for up to 500 degrees. I guess it got hotter than it could handle.

There's also Rustoleum High Heat paint which is intended for use on headers and the exhaust.

Yup, that is what I should have used. There's quite a difference from 500 F to 2000 F. Lesson learned.

Usually the highest temperate indicated on the paint is only for intermittent exposure and not continuous use.

unless you’re under extreme load or idle for a few hours, I very much doubt you’ll see any more than 1600 at the manifold, so what your painting will be a lot less. Probably average 1200~1400 at the manifold.
BTW Cats retain heat and need a lot of heat to actually work, but still don’t see the gas getting hotter after the cats. (But that’s an assumption)

I cut my bedsides for my high clearance bumper so it still woulda looked funny if I bobbed it I think. Either way, I was using the sawzall so off it went lol.

Perks of an axle dump, no need for weight in the bed, it’s all under it.
