For all of you that tow, how well does your truck handle pulling a travel trailer utilizing equalizers, sway control and electric brakes. I have a 26' AS but it takes a big block to haul. Bein' it's just me, a smaller TT would be cool to yank around with the Taco.

The amount my truck has to work just pulling my 5x8 enclosed down the highway with 1000# worth of mower and gear would make me never want to pull a larger camper with it.

My 2010 DCLB does pretty well with a 3500# dry 22' Hybrid. I do have a huge tranny cooler and suspension upgrades, including airbags. Reese sway control built into the weight distributors and electric brakes. Clearly we load up a ton of crap and 4 people, so I'd say I wouldn't go any bigger at the moment. I stay in 4th and let it run into 4-5k rpm if needed.

The answer completely depends on the size and weight of the travel trailer you get.

    I've got a 14 foot camper
Truck has: 885s and 5100s, Firestone bags, Daystar cradles, Redarc Elite, and a secondary tranny cooler. The trailer has weight distribution hitch and sway bar. It tows the trailer just fine, it seems like your issue is more in wind drag then weight. That thing is a huge parachute back there. I can load it full of water and gear and I don't notice much of a difference then when it is empty.

This is about 4200lbs ready to go. It does fine in 4th gear with a Anderson WDH, P3 brake controller, larger tranny cooler, and a scan gauge II, to keep an eye on tranny temps.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
This is approx 2300 lbs wet. It worked on the higher percentage grades and switchbacks in the mountains last month. I would never want to pull 4-5000 lbs through the mountains, 1st, 2nd or third gen Taco. Pulling power is not the only thing to think about. You also have turning and stopping. I just upgraded to a 2019 TRD Dbcb 4x4 yesterday. No combined pic yet.

My popup fully loaded was probably in the 2500lb range + a loaded bed (hunting trip). That's as much as I wanted to pull with an 01 2.7l.

That was at 10k'ish feet and sucked. A lot pulling, also gave me 1 really really solid pucker moment. I'm in Florida now so I'd be ok increasing weight a bit.

Hey folks, thanks for all your help and experience. I've been cruzin' tt's for the past week or so..since it's just me I've been keeping length around 19' to 22ish and dry weight around 3k (+/-). Camping is 70% boonies and 30% campgrounds (attending festivals). The time for good deals are starting as the season comes to a close, well, for the RV sales industry....last quarter to Christmas is best.My classic rig, 1978 Ford Bronco with bb460 towing a 1962 26' Airstream Overlander International Land Yacht has become a VERY thirsty rig. Definitely a short trip pull @ 6 mpg. Thanks again for all of your help!
