2.0 4.88 for me is wonderful. As stated above, Drive mode all the time. I feel like whatever percentage I apply it shifts accordingly.
My truck is 7” lift with 33” MTR’s, no additional weight comments at the moment. But empty bed, it’s superb!

So how obvious is the whine/knock sound? Anyone else have that issue? I hope this is not going to be common. You guys with 4.88's, what rpm does it run at 75-80 mph in D or 6th with 32" tires?

And to follow up with this question what 4.88 brands would you guys recommend?

I also would like to know which tune you guys would recommend to help hold 5th and 6th? My truck is a 2017 and the ecu calibration file came up as a 04B02 which isn’t an option for the 2017? Have any of you experienced this?

    Thank you guys in advance

That's because it's one of the oldest ECU's. Tell Flash Manager your truck is a 2016 and you'll be able to access the 04B02 tunes.

I have a 16 and had to choose 2017 to get the trans code. Mine was flashed to 04B04. Nitro gear is the only gear set to use. I looked to a lical diff shop and they told me for tacoma nitro gear has it down pat.

So I was super skeptical of this tune but have been following this thread on and off since it first started. When I saw there was a gear lock option I decided it was time to give it a try since I do use my truck to tow a trailer. I received my kit yesterday and immediately plugged it into the truck and found I was still on 0B400. I called the local dealer who said they couldn't get me in until Friday and they would need to truck 2-3 hours for calibration. I was way too impatient so I decided to download the techstream and the 04B04 CUW and re-calibrated at home. After, I put about 20 miles on the truck to burn up the last of the 87 octane and did notice some improvement but nothing too drastic. I filled up with 91 and loaded up performance gearlock 1.05. All I can say is HOlYFUCKAMOLY. The truck accelerates faster with 35s than it did when it was bone stock!!!! I do have 4.88s but the big heavy 35s were taking their toll compared to the previous set of 255 85r16s. Ill be taking the trailer up to the mountains in a couple weeks and can't wait to use the gearlock function. Also really excited about reading all these 2.0 reviews and talk of a SC. Thanks @OVTune from a very satisfied customer!!

If you are 04b02, you should update to 04b04. Its easy to do yourself if you can follow directions.

I’m another, after 4 tanks of fuel I can’t stand the tip-in of 2.0 OLE. The lurch from a dead stop or rolling idle is just no longer tolerable. I’ve flashed back to 1.05 93 Base.

I have not had this surface yet but I still need some more miles. Tip in has been 100% better then prior 1.05 uses.

Yeah, tip in on 2.0 is more aggressive than 1.05, takes a little getting use to on a stock weight truck. I don't think it's terrible, but wouldn't mind it tweaked down just a tad myself.

Just flashed 1.0.5 last night! 91 perf tune, it drives a lot better around town!! I did a freeway run going up this hill and I still felt it was struggling to get up then I really had to put the pedal to the floor to get it to shift. I saw there is like a 1.0.5.1 tune, should I flash that and see if it fixes the issues I had on the freeway having to put the pedal near all the way down to downshift, when going up a hill? I'm not sure what that flash does, though.

Flash 1.05.1 only if you have a TC shudder issue at low rpms, like driving on a washboard. If you don’t, 1.05 is good. Give it a few hundred miles to settle.

I'm running 4.88's and I don't experience any whine or knock sounds and I'm already past 2000 miles on them. I also have 33" tires with 18" rim's. I dont really hit 6th gear in D, but at 5th my RPM's are at 2300. Which is much lower than the stock gear ratio, during that time my RPM's were around 2800 - 3000 plus constant gear hunting. All of that went away as soon as I swapped out the gears.

I ordered my gears from East Coast Gear Supply. They told me they use Nitro Gears which in my own opinion are the best ones out there. No issues what so ever, everything was pre assembled and in total cost me $2600 but ended up getting $1100 in return when I sent them my stock cores.

1.05.1 is NOT for everyone. It's a patch meant only for those who experience shudder issues with the standard 1.05.

If you don't experience shudder on 1.05, do NOT flash 1.05.1.
