As a long time toyota truck owner all the way back to 1985. Think ive owned 8 or 9 trucks, all but 2 were 4cyl. Current truck is a 17 SR 4cyl 5speed 4x4,.that i traded a 17 SR 6cyl auto 4x4 4door for. Never liked the 3.5 or the 6speed auto, not saying its bad just not my thing. Current truck reminds me of the 85 i had, as it will outlast me. As ive said before, toyota has the reputation they have because of their 4cyl engines.

I went with the v6 without even thinking about the 4 cyclinder. But after reading this forum, learning about the cult following and the bullet proof nature of this engine, I would seriously consider the four banger next go around

I’ve had 2- 4 cylinder Tacoma’s since 95. Great reliability, there always seems to be some sort if jingle jangle click clacking chirpy sound coming from the motor when accelerating but great truck!

I had my reg-cab 2nd gen 4cyl 5MT for 11 years. Went with the v6 6MT for the heavier 3rd gen AC. I like them both and as long as you think about what you actually need out of your truck you can't go wrong with either.
    Just don't get the automatic.

What is like driving the 4cyl on the highway? How difficult is it to get up to 74 mph?

There are like no in depth reviews of the 4cyl

I’ll have to stay in it a little longer to eat what little negative equity is in it after paying tax, title, etc up front a few months ago.

As much as I’ve been thinking along similar lines, I’m not spending more money just to get out of it - especially when everything has been covered under warranty and hasn’t cost me a dime. CPO comes with a 1 year all inclusive warranty so by the time that’s up I’ll sell it and have my hands washed clean and get myself into another Taco. V6 most likely.

Wish Toyota would offer a V8 in a Tacoma. My 2005 4Runner with the V8 was my best Toyota so far and I have had a bunch of them.

But that’s the boy for a manual! I love my 2.7, just not happy about it’s issues thus far

Yeah I'm enjoying a ice cold glass of Tropical Punch Kool-Aid as I type this. And waiting on the storm to see if my truck gets pelted with hail.

No I'll just let it hail on it. Give me a reason to get it Line-X'd if it gets dented up.
