It's going. I'm going to swing by a gunsmith today and drop off my project Arisaka to confirm it's safe to shoot and have the chamber gauged for caliber.

Got it for free from Maner. It was rusting in his garage so bad we couldn't identify it. I got it mostly fixed up, needs a new stock set and need to confirm barrel condition and caliber.

I found a stock set for $37 on eBay. Has a few cracks I'll need to repair, but real cheap.

Never drive faster than your headlights and brakes, especially on a motorcycle. Cedric fucked up because he was going faster than he'd be able to react to. Had he been driving a car, he'd have still T-boned the van but at least (assuming a modern car) the airbags would have saved them. My $.02 based on everything I read.

The driver of the van has to feel horrible about this, but they can't take the blame. The news this morning was all about the volume of complaints going back 5 years about there needing to be a light at the other Mt Bonnell intersection. Perhaps Cedric's legacy is that one is finally put in.

Getting back to Cedric Benson, I see now what happened. The pic I posted before is Google Maps at the western Mt B/2222 intersection, not the one just to the east.

    upload_2019-8-20_15-56-17.jpg

It makes sense now, no stop light, and at the downhill from a crest on 2222 to the east, or left of the van driver.

If someone is coming balls out over that hill, they won't have time to stop for a vehicle trying to cross the road.

A pic of the van, after the crash, you can see the steep hill, and the lights at the other Mt B/2222 intersection.

I used to drive that road daily to work but it has been several years. I almost forgot how crazy that road is.

Yeah, not a location to be out-driving your lights and brakes.

I'll throw in my 2 cents, without reading much into the issue. Benson used to live in the area, and drove very erratictly in all of his vehicles, and had a real better than you attitude. This is coming from speaking to someone who has delivered there for a very long time.. I understand where a lot of riders come off as defending other riders, but over half of them in the Austin area piss me off beyond belief and need to show a lot more respect to the people they are on the road with. I don't wish harm on any of them, but when I hear about fiery explosion crashes with innocent people losing their lives, it disgusts me.
