Same here on a 2014 vRAV4. We got $1500 diminished value from Geico who even replaced a $2500 Taylor guitar she was carrying, A drunk driver crossed in the wife's path, This was not a total either, So we kept the truck for two years then sold it for decent money, Buyer said if we kept it for two years, it is likely not affected. and it wasn't

The body shop bought a front end from a yard and replaced it all.

$1500 here as well. Must be Geico’s limit.

My advice: DO NOT do a deal with the other guy to have him pay for it. Use his insurance company to cover your butt when (not if) the repair is greater than the estimate and to get a rental car during the repair.

Always file a claim on your own insurance, they will do all the fighting for you.

I have USAA, I’m not sure how their track record is when it comes to declaring a total loss. I imagine they would be more apt to do so considering I am not at fault, but then that could be wrong.

Your insurance company won’t be involved at all unless you need them to. If the at fault party has insurance, and enough insurance, it’ll be handled 100% through them unless you have your insurance intervene. Don’t ask your insurance company to step in unless there’s a specific need.

I was in a wreck in my old tacoma, roughly 10k in damage and I got an additional 3,499 in diminished value.

The reason it was 3,499 was that in the state of Virginia there is a statute that says if you make a claim against an insurance company for less than 3500 and they don't pay it, they can be forced to pay triple the amount if a court finds they are "not in good faith." So I sent them a certified letter asking for 3,499 and attached a copy of the statute to the letter.

Sold the truck after owning it for 15 years (11 years after the wreck) and got full KBB.

Driver decided to make a sudden right turn across three lanes of traffic. I t-boned him. Police were right behind me. Totally not my fault. Contacted my insurance (with police report). Insurance took care of everything. Next time my insurance was due, my rates went up. I contacted my insurance company, they informed me my policy increased because I had a claim. I informed insurance company, I would find another insurance provider.

    :itllbuffout:. Glad your ok.

My wife, kids and I were rear ended by a drunk driver while we were sitting at a stop light in her Honda Pilot. Car was totaled and we are left dealing with the aftermath. Shitty situation man, I hope your ok for the long term.

Its good, a Stan would have been more exciting, but Craig is smart. He keeps to himself and does alright. With Stan its either a hit or miss.

I had a 2009 and I got rear-ended with less visual damage than that. Ended up having a bent frame and the cab had damage from where the bed came in contact. Came out to over 19k in damage so they totaled it. Good luck with USAA. The person that hit me had Geico and they offered 22k for mine which was very reasonable and then it had to be handed over to our insurance (USAA) and they wanted to only give me 17k. It took me weeks of refusing their lowballs and threats to get them up to the 22k that Geico offered. Funny thing is, they both use the same estimating program, USAA just refused to fill out the options that I had on my truck. It was a TRD-OR and they kept trying to say it was a base model. Then they said they would stop paying for my rental unless I signed the BS offers. I was not happy but my point is to stay firm in what you know your truck is worth and don't fall for their tactics.
