Truck looks good man. I've also been wanting to do this, but out of everything I have read they will rub. I'm still torn however between these and pizza cutters. I have 2019 off road with Sema wheels 265/70 with no rubbing and will be lifting it 2 inches in the next few weeks. I wouldn't mind minor trimming but I don't want to get into CMC.

I say do the CMC and be done with the rubbing issue. Small 2” lift and you can fit 285’s. Cheers

Been daily driving it and only rub I had was on 3/4 turn on the front of the bumper. I used a heat gun and haven't had any rubbing since.

Also can confirm running 285/75/16s on my trd pro. With an in spec alignment, i've had zero issues rubbing in all conditions. Last alignment the guy set my caster to +5 (waaaaay out of spec) and got it to rub in the back. with factory +2 I've had no issues whatsoever fully flexed forward and reverse.

You can't fit 285s on a stock trd offroad. If you want an explanation for why people keep telling you you can't do it. It's because THEY cant.

To clarify my previous post, I also used a heat gun to push the front out of the way just to be safe and because it was SO easy, and it looked a little close.

Any more updates? I’m getting serious about upgrading tires on my pro , so have been looking at mine closely and don’t see how I could fit 285/75 or even 255/85s without cutting ..maybe w/ an adjustable UCA, but that’s more $$ I don’t want to spend right now...

IMHO, To go with the larger diameter and and have full functionality on and off road, you need to spend the money on the UCAs and CMC. You already spent the money getting the Pro, enjoy it for what it is. It is a very capable off road vehicle, even with stock tire size.

Not a TRD pro but, Update: I went ahead and followed my heart. 5100 lift with 1" block in back and no UCA. Took a little of work from my local alignment shop. I love it. No CMC and only just a tad of rubbing on the inside fender liner in very specific occasions. Not enough for me to even get out my heat gun. I have also done a fair amount of dirt time without any problems, unless you count aggressive rocks. 258/70-R17

Thanks! Yes the wheels are Toyota 4runner TRD Pro wheels which I believe is pro sema that I bought from Toyota and 285/70R17 BFG KO2 C load. I aired down to 26psi hot which was about 20psi when 40°F parked

I have the same set up. I have noticed my tires are a bit rounded. I assume because we have put wide tires on a narrow rim. Have you run into any weird wear?

I have a TRD Off-road, but am upgrading to the TRD Pro suspension soon. I am wondering if I can run this same setup (SEMA wheels and 285s) without a CMC. I’d be ok with some mild trimming though. Anyone with this setup?

Don't think BFG recommends fitting 285's on a 7" wide wheel.

    Rugged Off-road 2.25” and 1” blocks. 285/70r17 on TRD 4Runner SEMA wheels
2020 OR model. Mounted the exact wheels but Ridge Grapplers.

no rubbing on 2.25” Rugged Offroad spacer lift. 1” rear block.

    looks and works awesome.

If you plan just mall crawling it no worries  but you may find yourself rubbing on the part of fender well closest to the doors when entering steep driveways while turning into them

For anything other than a fire road you will rub the as your suspension gets compressed, especially while turning or backing up, these are issues I had when I trusted the 285 w/o mods crowd, but quickly found out, I used my truck differently than they did.

I’d recommend going to a thinner tire if you plan on taller one and not doing any other modifications and plan to take your TRD OR... off-road. Check out https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-skinny-on-skinny-tires.529656/
