For anyone that's running the 265/70R17 SL's on a stock lift and wheel did you experience any rubbing? I'm looking to replace my Grabber AT2's, which I was really happy with, but see the 70R17 is the closest to stock size you can get in the ATX.
I guess I should specify I'm running a stock 4Runner wheel on my Tacoma. The specs are 17 inch diameter , 7.5 inch wide, 4.875 backspace. I'm not sure how that compares to the 2008 sport stock wheel.

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but I'll throw this out there anyway.

I have 265/70/17 AT2s on my truck currently. This is my second set of them. I follow this thread because I'm considering the ATX next and want to see real people's reviews of them. I rubbed both the UCA and LCA on the stock sport wheels with a 2" lift. I put a 1" spacer on to correct the issue and eventually switched to FJ trail wheels that are about .6" different backspacing than the OEM Sport wheels. No more rubbing issues.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. That's a lot more rubbing/adjustments then I am looking to make. Sounds like I might have to try and find another tire.

I had 265/70-17 Hancook Dynapro ATM's on the stock sport rims with no lift. There was no rubbing at all even at full lock. I do not offroad, so cant say about during any flexing.

Thanks I appreciate the info. Your reply and the previous one are like exact opposites though, so now I don't know what to think.

The point is, your mileage may vary. I had a slight lift, so my truck is going to sit different than yours. The running on my UCAs and LCAs was only at full lock and was barely enough to "polish" or clean the metal. It never took any actual paint off.

Also, he had Hankook and I have General. Not all 265/70/17 tires are going to be exact. The tread depth will also play a role.

This is actually my 4th set of General Grabber AT2 tires. First were on a 1st gen Kia Sorento that would go anywhere. 2nd set was on my Tacoma. 3rd set went on a 5th gen 4Runner Trail, and 4th set are the current ones on my Tacoma. They are about the best bang for the buck IMHO. Made in USA, 60k warranty, SevereSnowService (Snowflake) rated, low price. I've been extremely happy with them and wouldn't hesitate to put them on again.

Final point, you already stated that you are using a stock 4runner wheel. What you didn't say is which stock 4runner wheel you are running. I had to enlarge your avatar to see that you are running the Trail Edition 4Runner wheels, which are the same backspacing as the FJ Trail wheels that I have (and were the same as the 5th Gen 4Runner that received the 3rd set of Grabbers that I purchased).

Get the tires. You'll be fine.

I'm running 265/70/17 grabber atx on TRDOR stock suspension.

    4runner TRD wheels, no rubbing.

Most people I have read of having no issues with 1 size bigger. That would be 265/70-17 on a sport. You could also go slightly skinnier to give extra room. I currently have 255/70-17. About 1/2" skinnier and shorter.
Both have been great, the larger ones looked a tiny bit better, as they filled the wheel wells slightly more, but I'm happy with either.

Sorry to revive an old post, but any other updates after this post on snow traction? How's the lateral grip while turning? Any issues stopping?

The tread pattern is very similar to the AT2, which bore the mountain snowflake symbol on most sizes (indicating great performance in snow). I would anticipate similar results in the snow with the ATX. In my personal experience, my AT2s have done great in the snow.

Getting close to winter and time again for tires. I'm sure these do well in snow but how about rain and slush?

No complaints from my AT2s, though that is only marginally helpful. I know you want comments from folks with the ATX specifically; but again, the tread pattern is very similar (if not the same). As far as I can tell, only the sidewall is different.

My only issue, and I don't think this is related to the tire at all, is that my back end could break loose if I was making a relatively sharp turn on a slick surface. This was before I added the extra weight of the camper shell. I haven't noticed it since then, and the Tacoma bed is so light that I'm pretty sure I would have had the same issue with any tire.

I tried them in the snow. I’m 2 wheel they weren’t impressive. Did ok but slid on most turns. In 4 hi tho it was instant grab. Very impressed!
Anyone know why they grab in 4 hi way more then 2 wheel?

Could be driving style, road surface (concrete vs. asphalt), road angles and degrees of turn.

4wd only really means that you have power to the front two wheels and the rear two wheels, but doesn't mean that you have power to all 4 all the time. In normal 2wd, you're only really putting power to one wheel. In 4wd, you're only really putting power to 2 wheels: 1 in front and one in back. Only way to change that is to lock the differentials. Having the front diff engaged usually means that you are forced to turn a little slower too. That could have some impact.

Do you have another tire to compare in the same conditions?
