Master kits do come with seals, however they dont put the highest quality seals in the pack which is very unfortunate that you pay so much for that master kit. I recomend to have OEM toyota seals as they are good insurance that you wont have leaks. Now @ECGS needs to start producing solid pinion collars for the toyota 8.75 rear to really protect your investment.

Anyone have any recommendations for quality gear installation in San Diego or SoCal area?

Upgrading to 285's soon and will probably just go straight to 5.29's.....screw it. Currently deployed and I have a ton of early christmas presents waiting for me (RTT, bedrack, prinsu, lightbar, etc) to install when I get back.

Confirm 5.29 is not overkill for 285s, do not plan to put on steel bumpers, but possibly skid plates and sliders. Thanks!

Concur! Thanks, considering all the Tacomas running around San Diego, surely someone has a recommendation.

nitro gears full 5.29 kit wouldn’t provide good enough seals??? or are you referring to another brands kit?

    Stock...for now
I've heard San Diego Gear & Axle know their stuff and do quality work.
I had 'The Differential and Axle Shop' in Escondido regear my E-350 Van. Very professional, easy to work with, very happy with the service provided. They do lots of Toyotas.

For those that paid a shop for parts and labor and don't mind me asking, what was the cost out the door?

So far I've talked to 2 shops about 5.29s and a front ARB. One quoted me $3600 and the other $3900.

Nitro sells the gear and bearing kit for about $1300 and the ARB is about $900. Rest is labor. The front clamshell is a bitch.

@Texoma does $1700 sound about right for the labor side?

For a tax paying shop, that seems about right. I'm about $1k cheaper.

I remove the front axle and 3rd member and take it to them. Cuts out a lot of the labor. If I’m being lazy the shops around here will do them for $400-$500

About 5hrs of removal and installation. Less if you've done it a few times.

Yeah. We pull the lower ball joint bolts, pull them out so we can pop the axles out and then drop the front. Usually a 2 hour process with pulling the rear. Done it a couple dozen times now.

Also I’m not planning on going back to my 4.30s if anyone is interested in them. Ran them with my 33s cause it’s stock ratio. I would avg 17-19mpg depending on how much highway I’d do.

    ACE638BA-ECE9-4593-9877-E05C6A3B8FE2.jpg

Not sure how the turbo and super chargers are going to like the higher rpms but I’ll deal with that bridge when I cross it.
