I got a leer cap on my SR5 about a month and a half ago. Prior to that, I had been using the OEM tonneau cover that came with the truck. The plan was to keep the tonneau for occasional use, but primarily have the cap on.

Now I’m wondering if I should just sell the tonneau (and swap rail covers). It’s just taking up room in the garage and I don’t see many scenarios where I’d take off the cap in favor of the tonneau.

I primarily use the truck as a DD and for family outings and hunting trips.

Anyone been in a similar spot? What are the pros and cons? Convince me of what to do.

I honestly don't understand these "talk me [in/out] of threads" especially since you've got enough cred to list something in the for sale section.

Hopefully this helps: Sell the tonneau, you have a nice shell.

I’m just looking for thoughts from people who might think of things I haven’t considered who may have had a similar conundrum. Sounds like people think I should just sell it. If I do, I won’t tell the wife and use the money for more truck stuff. She won’t even notice it’s missing.

Dear lord. I can't imagine occasionally popping my shell off. I put it on in 2007 and it stayed on until I traded her in 2015. Some people are just motivated, I guess.

My truck got a shell in '04, sat in a storage unit in Hawaii for over 10 years. Took the shell off in '17, felt like I was opening Pandora's box :rofl:

Yeah, I plan on keeping the truck for a long time. If I keep the cover, it’s not to increase resale value, it would be for its utility.

How easy is it for you to take off and easily store the shell? If you dont say "extremely easy", then how likely are you to regularly take off shell that warrants keeping a tonneau?

    Get rid of it.

The high shells are really heavy, and Id hate to drop it while moving it. Rent a day truck or trailer if you’re moving something tall, $20 or so at most well known local rental places.
