brake upgrade?

Im looking for a good brake upgrade any suggestions?

 

If you mean simple like then EBC brake pads are very nice and stop alot better than stock. As for major upgrades like new calipers and such I bet another Toyota vehicle with disc brakes that uses the same rear axle as our truck can be made to work pretty easy. BUT that is just a guess. I would figure the large suvs that took the place of hte landcruiser market may run the same rear end and if so we may be able to source rear disk brake from one of those. Good Luck though. JOE>

 

I have Power Slot rotor and Akebono brake pads, so far they're excellent exept for the squeak of the brake pads.

 

By upgrade do you want larger ones to fill in behind big wheels?, shorter stopping?, or better repeated high speed stops?, or stiffer pedal feel?, or?

Lot's of ways to improve but some ways will hurt if you don't size them correctly.

Change your pads and upgrade to SS lines

 

when im haulin ass in the desert my brakes suck and just looking for suggestions on whether i should just get new rotors or wah?

 

x2 just got them installed on my truck this weekend they do make a world of difference. At first I was like the pedal feels too stiff but that was driving around in the parking lot. On the road they have a great feel to them with the stock pads. With some upgraded pads and rotors it would probably help even more.

That is about the most useless answer you could give considering his question had multiple parts.

What is the problem you are trying to fix?? What kind of money are you trying to spend? The clearer you are about your goals the better then answers you are likely to get.

 

Do SS lines alone make a noticeable difference or is it more that final step to getting the most out of your brakes after you upgrade your pads and rotors? I would also like more stopping power (namely shorter stopping distance and a better initial bite). I've read a lot about swapping out the rotors and pads which I intend to do once my truck needs them, but do the SS lines make that much of a difference?

there's a write up on here for 1gens being able to use 1gen tundra calipers and rotors ... don't know if that would be the same for 2gen tacomas and 2gen tundras but you may want to look into it it a good mod and fairly cheap

 

So you have all four of those issues at the same time?? I find that hard to believe....so you didn't really answer his question.

Give us enough information to work with to make good recommendations-Otherwise just go buy the most expensive parts you can find...

 

2nd gen tundra's are 5 lug. but idk about 1st gen ones being able to fit. i know some people have put 1st gen taco front brakes on their 2nd gens, so i would think the 1st gen tundra ones would fit, whether or not they would make a difference is another story though.
