Lately my A/C im my 2010 crew cab has been wonky. It ran fine for a long time then one day out of the blue the blower (?) stopped, well, blowing. I scheduled a service appt with the dealership and the day before the appt it started up again. Ran fine for a while then just this past week it stopped again. Of course, the morning before the appt it starts working again and a tech can't fix what is working fine. Nothing else seems to be the problem. Help?

Sounds like your fan speed resistor is bad.

Pretty easy fix. Look it up on you tube.

Unplug the resistor connector and look at it. One of the terminals may look unlike the others. If that is the case, most places have a kit with a new resistor and connector butt splices to crimp the new onto the old

just order the entire blower assembly from ebay, more than likely just the resistor but for $40 you can get both and not have to worry. Just replaced mine not to long ago.

$40? Lowest I have seen for a new blower is ~$120.

Is the blower resistor that thing under the dash that if it goes you only get low and high?

Yes except if the resistor is shot you only get high as high speed doesn't use the resistor.

Check your connections at the resistor and on the blower motor they tend to have a loose fit and get overheated and burned.

Not sure where the blower motor is in the engine bay. Need to get a Chilton's or something...

Not in the engine bay. Passenger side in the cab behind the glove box.

Ya know I was getting ready to post here about my A/C. I just replaced my headlight bulb. I disconnected the battery to get in there and when I reset everything, my A/C wasn’t blowing cold for like 30 minutes. Then it ran ice cold finally after being off. So. Did you have anything electrical happen?

Nope. Nothing. Just out of the blue it stopped blowing one day then 2 days later started up again. Ran fine for 3-4 months then stopped. 2 days later it started the morning of my appointment with Toyota to have the issue diagnosed and fixed. Cant diagnose something that is working... So now its off again and has been for 3 days. If i turn it on and turn the temp to cold with the vent set to outside air I get cold air coming through. Not alot but still some.

Had the same problem on a Silverado I used to own and an 06 Tacoma I traded in a few months ago.
Sounds stupid but you can usually smack or lightly knock with your hand under the dash on the passenger side and it will start running again for awhile. Eventually you’ll need to replace the blower resister but it’s extremely easy.
If the wiring plug got overheated due to the failing resister it may have melted and you’ll need to replace it too but that’s just a matter of butt splicing a few wires.

Got down in there today. The plug looks fine with no visible signs of overheating. It wasnt loose either. One thing I did notice is that when I removed the old cabin filter it was severely bowed. Im wondering if it was bowed enough to block the blower motor from spinning. Anyway I replaced the filter and vacuumed inside of the blower as best i could. Not a lot came out. Right now it is working just fine.
