I personally couldn't handle the politics and collapsing economy in Seattle, but it's still a cool place to visit.

Colorado, on the other hand, is most excellent for 100 different outdoor reasons, and the politics are tolerable.

Not that you asked for my opinion...lol

You guys need to check out Boise, ID. The lady and I also want a big adventure in the next couple of years and have been planning a list of cities to check out on a road trip next year before we actually move. For western standards, Boise has a relatively low cost of living, amazing access to the outdoors, and is beautiful.

Yeah I think we did while camping the other weekend. We aren't 100% yet but we are close. We both just want some different scenery and a taste of western life. Neither of us have ever had a huge adventure either and I feel like we are both longing for it. Nothing like settling the west to take care of that. Puts us in a great spot to enjoy floating, fly fishing and camping/backpacking together too. Not to mention riding, but that's just for me lol.

We just have such a good life here, it's hard to commit.

I’ve been eyeing Boise myself. Seems their economy is growing a good bit. It will be interesting how it changes over the next few years.

Now I'm just jealous af. I can't convince my wife to move anywhere that gets more snow than North Carolina, but I'd personally be 100% content in CO, ID, WY, or MT if I had my way.

Is wimpiness grounds for a divorce? Gotta run that one past my lawyer... :D

Ditto, 100%. But also - life is good, if it ain't broke don't fix it. But a few years somewhere else could do wonders. We're on the same page I think, I'll start looking at communes

My wife and I are 1 year into a 5 year plan to move to Boise.

    The west is the best.

    Boise is a great place.

Lol. Meh, Seattle area is strong for my industry (manufacturing). I dont find politics impacts my daily life all that much either.

Going for the scenery! Colorado is the preference!

Do it. Boise is great, but honestly Idaho in general is a flippin off the mainstream radar gem. At least for now....
I’m in a similar boat. Wife says she’s down to relocate if I can find adequate employment. Truthfully though she’s never experienced what a real winter can present. That and I don’t think she’ll actually be able to live that far from her folks :puke:

I’ve lived/experienced long term all those places and know I’d be 100% content. Once there are kids in tow, taking a ‘big adventure’ becomes a lot more challenging. At least it’s seeming that way for me. I can’t effectively convey the amount of distaste I have for our current location.

I was a huge fan of Reno. I don’t think they get a ton of snow unless you search for it up in the mountains. The heat in the summer wasn’t terrible and the summer mornings are super nice since it is real dessert. Plus Lake Tahoe less than an hour away. I visited for a few days and loved it.

All of your points sound familiar especially the family part. Likewise my biggest concern is employment primarily because I can't wait to leave corporate america but if we moved elsewhere I know it would be a likely situation for at least a few years after relocating.

These will be good campfire talks

If you would have given me a list of fifty potential cities I cannot say Reno would have been on there. I may need to look into it! The biggest surprise I have heard from a few people is New Mexico-Arizona area
