I would check the tow yards. I came to CO with a 16’ steel bed, dove tail trailer with brand new brakes and brand new tires. It was towed by the city because it didn’t have tags on it. Had no idea CO required trailer tags. The truck it was mated to had current TN tags but I didn’t check on the trailer at the bottom of my neighborhood frequently enough. By the time I realized it was missing, and called around to find it, the tow yard wanted $575 to get it back. That fee included a $175 TOW FEE to tow it to the yard 5 miles away. I used some extremely choice words with the kind lady on the phone. I paid $1500 for it 15 years ago.

Anyone know of a trail a stock truck can make up that has a fishable lake at the top? Had knee surgery a few months ago and can't quite hike up to an Alpine lake just yet, and getting super bored at home doing PT.

Loch Lomond I'd you have no-to-mild/moderate experience.

Wheeler lake is doable in a stock truck if you have moderate-difficult experience. Risk of body damage. Recently ran up with a stock 2018 4Runner and 2017 3Rd gen access cab. Experienced drivers in both, 4 runner had paint damage to bumpers and the Tacoma got kissed in the cab on one side (no sliders)

Piney Lake. Kinda touristy but should be slowing down as the kids are back to school. Moose sightings out there frequently. Twin lakes up by Leadville. Not off road but a nice drive with plenty of trails nearby that you could hit after Fishing.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I'll check them out for this weekend. Will also throw in I'm also on the stock tires just in case any of the suggested trails are too sharp for stock tires

Ahh geeze...what happened with your surgery? Mine was only ACL replacement and Meniscus repair. Fairly straightforward. Did you have something more intensive?

Some good lakes up around Gunnison. Took my truck to Rainbow Lake, easy trail...not sure if there's any fishy's waiting for a hook in it though.
Haven't fished in CO in years...maybe next year?

So it looks like the engine temp runs a bit hot. My 98’s needle is dead horizontal.

I know that these gauges aren’t the most accurate. I’ll eventually get the Ultrgauge hooked up. But I’ve seen this happen on trucks that either have autos or the thermostat jiggle valve installed upside down. Given the fact the t-belt/thermostat/water pump service was done at Brakes Plus 20,000 miles ago I assume it could be the latter.

Question: how hard is it to get to that jiggle valve and install it properly?

Once I get an actual temp reading, is it detrimental to the engine if it’s running a bit hot?

Get the ultra or scan gauge, those factory gauges are worthless.
My 96 gauge never moves but the ultra gauge shows variance from 186 to 205, depending on circumstances.

    What!?

I like those gauges. And the rest of the interior is way nicer than the earlier 1st gens too.
