I am still in shock. I cannot believe how much it roars under the hood when you get on it, yet it is still quite with the cruise control set and the rpms floating at 2k. I am going to have some serious lead foot issues and any mpg gains are going down the drain for a few tanks.

I am wondering if I even want to put exhaust on the truck now.....

I plan to shoot video of from inside the truck for those interested.

I'm interested. Post it. I don't think of any these CAIs actually improve mileage. These Tacos pretty much come with CAIs.

I have been tracking my MPG for a while now, so if there are any gains, it will be on the highway and it will be obvious.

The tube part that goes into the fender is very restrictive, I bet if you cut the half side off you would get more airflow.

I haven't looked at it in detail yet. Maybe something can be done to allow more air into the intake simliar to the deck plate mod. But Toyota did spend a lot of money making sure everything runs as well as it should they way it was designed. We'll see. I'd feel a little weird cutting or messing with it since it is only 2-3 months old.

congrats on the intake bro...I love my TRD...:D staying off the throttle definitely took some getting used too...

that part is to protect the intake sucking up water and damaging the MAF sensor...its also to prevent hydrolock of the engine...

Coupe and a few others from XR-U.com have made modifications to their AFE/TRD CAI to allow the air to drop down to ambient air temps a lot quicker...with his design it has a slight angle upwards so that even if its raining the water doesn't collect and/or seep up into the intake...but if it does the mesh that he has will collect the water and drop to the bottom of the intake...

there was another member here that converted his hood scoop to mate directly up to the TRD CAI...it was a really cool design however because there isn't much pressure coming over the hood the air isn't as likely to get sucked down into the intake...another thing to consider is if he's driving through heavy rains and/or drive through rivers because the the scoop is higher than the intake the water runs down directly into the intake...

I may just have to sell my K&N for this setup. I love the closeups of the red taco. Good job!
Is that custom cutting or are those regular parts? I'm not familiar with the AFE at all.
