I'm not sure it is "a little" AC noise as you describe. I think it may not just be about the sensitivity of an individual, but it seems some Tacomas are doing it and others are not, or some are doing it more than others. So what you imagine I or he may be complaining about may not be the same amount of sound as might be in your vehicle. In fact, I PM'd with one individual the other day who had their Tacoma A/C noise fixed and the noise has apparently greatly reduced, so far. Also, at the dealer they had tested another vehicle of the same type that was not making the nosie. Problem may not just be limited to annoyance, but also might be a sign of something being messed up in the A/C system.

I'm only experiencing a slight whining noise, not familiar with the Darth Vader noise.

Some posts on this thread seemed to say that taping shut the lower control arm might fix the problem, but another post said they tried it and it didn't work. That possible fix is for the howling or whistling noise I think, that's the same as whining noise you describe I assume.

Did this end up fixing the issue?

I'm fairly sure my issue is within the AC system itself: when I begin to hear the whining noise, I immediately shut off the AC compressor (AC button) and the whining stops immediately.

Thanks for the additional info though; it may help someone else reading this thread.

lets put into perspective why an AC system makes A "Darth Vader" noise hmmm AC system consists of Serpentine belts turning, pulleys, the Fan speed setting, compressor clutch engagement, the engine idling up and down when AC is on geez I wonder why it makes so much Darth Vader noises. The dealer tech must of laughed his a** off when the customer came in with a darth vader AC noise, they probably checked out the whole system out and found nothing out of the ordinary with its performance and noise and gave it back to you and LOL'd their a** off. I have yet to own a vehicle where there wasn't additional so called noise when the AC is on, in the old days we called it the AC is on and went on with our lives.

So far I’m not getting any more unusual AC noise. Had the compressor, evap and condenser lines replaced. I can tell for a fact that it operates and sounds a lot smoother/quieter. I’ll keep driving and see how it holds up.

It's the lowest arm that connects to your front wheel, the flat looking part facing the ground. if you lay on the ground from the front of your truck, you will see about 4-5 holes in the bottom of the arm. tape off the highest 3 holes, leaving the lowest hole open for drainage. if the kazoo sound at low speeds goes away, it is the lower control arms howling. there is a tsb for plugs to stop the sound.

That’s some funny shit. I think we all have some Tacoma 3rd gen hypochondria.

I’ve never have darth in mine and screw that put another 1000 and come back and see me. How about I give the shit back and throw the keys on the sales floor. I don’t like to be blown off. Problems don’t fix themselves. That’s why they are suppose to do test runs before it’s available for sale. I’ve done the checklist back in the day. Ppl are just too lazy and assume everything is fine. I bought mine with 000003 miles and put every stinking 28k on it. I’ve had other quirks but not that.

Bro I was gonna say that seriously. I’m not a tech but the sound you described sound like lack or lost pressure in the system

You could lemon law it... depending on the miles I would. Or get some free upgrades. Like pro grill and bedmat. You have leverage.

Not because ac is hissing , because the compressor and condenser needed to be replaced on a truck that had 500miles on it when he bought it. I don’t want a brand new vehicle being dismantled for any repairs on a BRAND NEW anything. So I’m saying either return it or say I’ll keep it but make me it right if I keep it buy offering something that’s pennies on the dollar to them
