It's very possible you have multiple things going on with your truck. The brakes on mine are smooth. I've tested them under moderate to hard braking at higher speeds and there are no vibrations. I've even tried braking with only the e-brake. Nothing. I still have the common deceleration vibration going on from 25-15 mph (with or without brakes), and then a slight rumbly feeling from 15 to a stop, almost like you can feel the tire treads.

Agreed. Done the same tests, had the same results.

I really don't know, the context clues seem to say this normal & nothing more we can do. This letter was in response to a case being opened with corporate where I asked for either a fix or my money back..

Someone once mentioned that it's not Toyota Corp that buys the truck back but the dealership. If you're like me & only want another Toyota, should I be dealing with the dealership rather than Corp???

Corporate told me they considered my complaint closed since the service department fixed the latest caliper issue. The vibration is back and worse. Dealer doesn’t want to help on a trade-in so I’m moving on. If they made a legit effort to trade me into a Tundra I would, but the Ford people are giving me a way better deal.

I’ll miss a lot about this truck, just not the driving experience.

I honestly love the tundra lots more than the taco. Just out of my budget right now

read through most of this thread, as i have just recently picked up my build date 6/19 TRD OR. i'm still on the original tank of gas (about 250 miles on the truck) and i haven't experienced any of this- no vibration on decel (with or without brakes), no vibration while braking, no vibration with e-brake at speeds. I'm new to this website but have worked for BMW and many private German shops (just credentialing my opinion). It totally sucks you all are going through this. reading through this has made me more aware while driving, but certainly haven't noticed anything yet.
Anyone experience this on a BD truck after 6/19?

Honestly ignorance is bliss with regards to this issue lol. I didn't notice the vibration on mine truck until after I joined the forum, then, like an idiot, I clicked on the big vibration thread and now I notice it every time I drive my truck.

It's really not a big deal IMO.. very minor quirk/annoyance in the grand scheme of things, and I am relieved to know it is a design related issue rather than a manufacturing flaw (as evident by the fact that so many people have it across all 3rd gen model years, Toyota has said it is "normal", and the reported symptoms are the same for every case).

So the vibration isn't like shake your truck apart bad but more along the lines of a small annoyance? Thinking about getting a Tacoma next year and actually test drove one yesterday and didn't really notice anything like that. My gf's Envision she's leasing has a rather small vibration sometimes when you want to accelerate on the gas and the transmission doesn't quite downshift right away if your at slower speeds and the car shakes from being so low in rpms. It's annoying but not the end of the world.

It's a very slight vibration, nowhere near "shake the truck apart" bad. It generally occurs when decelerating from about 25 mph down to 15 or so, whether on or off the brakes, but the brakes make it more noticeable. Again, its slight, but noticeable. Outside of that speed range the truck is smooth.

It's a very livable issue not worth worrying about IMO.

I am currently dealing with this issue. Obvious to the tech at the dealership, he swapped drums with no change. It is super annoying

This was not the case with my 2017 buy back. The entire process was done through corporate, and the dealership was unaware of any buy-back going on with my truck. My truck is currently at a 3rd party mechanic for the issue, so I will update you all with their findings.

I fly helicopters so I’m used to vibrations in vehicles. And each truck is different. My buddy has one that doesn’t do it at all. A tech at my dealership has one where the transmission and brakes are far worse than mine.

I love the truck for the reasons I bought it. But for my commute, it’s no longer what I want to tolerate.

Those of you who have installed a lift that includes raising the rearend, do you notice any vibrations after lifted or before lifting?

My brakes only vibrate when they're heated up. The pads they put on our trucks are absolute garbage and offgas pretty horribly which causes alot of this vibrating feel.

But if youre experiencing vibration when the brakes are still cool under normal driving then yeah its probably something else.

This is the thing that kinda irks me the most actually. When did Toyota reduce enough in quality to where we're like, they're good as soon as you, change the brake pads, rebuild the drums, fill up the tranny fluid, add a leaf in the rear, put on larger diameter shocks, change the tires out, change out all the speakers and relearn to drive, once you do that, it's a pretty good truck if you stay on top of the rust from there, haha, wtf..

I mean, you got guys fighting to find OEM parts for their 80's & 90's 4x4s and you got guys in almost 2020 telling you what OEM parts to ditch first to make the truck bearable..

Biggie was right, mo money mo problems..

Won't be dealing with the vibration anymore. Smooth as glass and I'm pretty stoked. Buddy has an extra hitch rack for the dirtbike, so I'll be getting that. Otherwise I still have old faithful (90 silverado) that never gave a hiccup, rode and drove like it should from day 1. Without long-term experience with the 4Runner I'll spare everyone the agony of how much "better" it is, but I will say that IMO the powertrain is a better package. The extra torque down low is welcome and keeps it from falling on it's face like the Taco. The 5spd helps with that as well. Brakes and drive line vibration are non-existent. Good luck to everyone with their Tacos.

Quick update, my third party mechanic found excessive rust building up in my drums and found the driver side brake shoe (the parking brake side) is dragging more than the right side. $70 for an adjustment, and the brake shuddering is still there. Third party mechanic was not able to diagnose root cause of the issue. I hope that Toyota eventually finds a solution for those with the problem, but I'll be selling the truck now. I bought a Toyota for a long term reliable vehicle that I could get 300k on, but my experience has been the exact opposite of what I expected.

Sorry to hear about more of y’all experiencing this.

1,200mi after both rear axles and drums replaced- and I can feel a slight tire-tread like vibration when coming to a stop, but nothing like the pronounced rumple-strip feel it had on the originals.

Toyota corporate was VERY helpful for me, not sure why they are dicking around with some of y’all.
