Aisin timing belt kit

AISIN Timing belt kits are the way to go right? I have a buddy who works at Toyota and that’s what he is recommending. What do you guys think?

The best way to go with a timing belt job is to purchase this kit on eBay, and then the few additional parts/supplies you'll need:

1. The crank pulley bolt, which Toyota says is a single-use bolt given the 217 ft-lbs of torque it's under while in service. (90119-16006)
2. Two gallons of red coolant concentrate, to refill the radiator when it's reinstalled. (00272-1LLAC)
3. Six gallons of distilled water - again, for the radiator.

You'll also want/need some special tools for the job

1. OTC 6673 Universal Belt Tension Gauge
2. Lisle 58430 Shaft Type Seal Puller
3. Schley Products SP 64400 Harmonic Damper Pulley Holding Tool
4. OTC 4518 Stinger 5-ton Bar-Type Puller/Bearing Separator Set
   1. (2) M8 Metric Bolts with a 1.25 Pitch, 100mm long with 4 washers - these are the bolts we used in conjunction with the OTC 4518 puller or other puller you have to remove the crankshaft pulley.
5. PRIVATE BRAND TOOLS PBT70960 Crankshaft and Camshaft Seal Tool Kit
6. Lisle 24680 Spill-Free Funnel
7. Performance Tool W89208 Cam Pulley Holder
8. TEKTON 24320 1/4-Inch Drive Click Torque Wrench (20-200 in.-lb./2.26-22.6 Nm)

The ebay kit is good stuff if you want to repair additional things and need to have the toyota logo.

Heres a cheaper Asin unit to replace the bare bones stuff.

Ive got Gates parts for the last 40k miles and it works as expected (I was in a time crunch)

 

Fair enough. Just seems to me that while you're in there, you might as well refresh everything.

Price difference isn't all that big considering the labor to get in there if you have to go back later...

 

I went with the Aisin kit from Amazon too. I didn't really feel like doing the cam seals, and it's easy enough for me to get to them when it comes time to be replaced.

 

Your cooling system capacity is EIGHT gallons? Pardon my skepticism.

 

The extra gallons of distilled water was probably used to flush the system.

 

when you add up all the special tools and time and parts might be better off letting a mechanic or dealership do it mine 2004 TRD came out to $900 plus tax thats at a Toyota dealer all new OEM parts thermostat, water pump,belts, coolant etc.

 

I replaced every single thing while I was in there, including the crank seals using the Ebay all OEM kit. See Timmy the Toyotaman video. By the way, you do not need the $106 seal tapper inner tool. I made a tapper inner from a piece of PVC.

 

Don't ignore the CRANK PULLEY BOLT as this is the cause of failures and they are a 1 use only item. I had mine done at dealer, probably by a guy who has done hundreds of them and i hope to keep truck for a long time.

 

+1 for PVC. No need to spend a bunch of money on limited use tools. Just take your new seals to Lowes or HD and find pieces of PVC that match up. Spend money on good torque wrenches.

OTC 4754 with a 3/4 inch torque wrench from Harbor Freight.



You can use this tool for the timing and crankshaft pulleys.





Buff down the ends of the largest points to use these on the crankshaft pulley.



This little seal puller worked well.



Use some c-clamps to hold the belts to the pulleys. Turn the pulleys in opposite directions to produce slack at the bottom of the belt so it will slide over the crankshaft and idler pulley. That was an easy step.

I didn't know the crank pulley bolt was a single use, I'm on my 3rd belt??? (340,000 mi).

 

This tool works great for me I’ve had it for a couple years, you can torque the crank bolt fine with it and works like a charm on the cam gears too.

 

Someone doesn't have a factory shop manual......
