Not all Mitsubishi's are crap. The first car that I bought when I graduated College in 2008 was a brand new 2009 Lancer GTS 5 speed. Paid $17,400 for it. I put 130k miles on it over 10 years and never had a single issue -- literally zero. I sold it a few months ago for $4,500. Here is how it looked the day that we parted ways:

That car was amazing back in 1991 when it came out.

    300 HP twin turbo 3.0 V6
    All wheel drive
    4 wheel steering
    Active front and rear spoilers
    Adjustable suspension
    Adjustable exhaust

The tech in that car was amazing. They were heavy as hell. But still pretty quick and agile

No they all favored the STI as a day to day but they all admitted the Evo was the faster car. But at the end of the day they would all get in the Subaru over the Evo

Galant VR and 3000Gt VR Eclipse GSX all distant memories at this point.

Never owned one but always respected EVO's, an was always intrigued by the 90's Eclipse turbos and 3000 GT, just never heard much good reliability wise aside from the 4G63. Most Evo owners I see say they are pretty reliable (every car has their problems). All I do know is my local dealer has a 14 EVO X and wants 36 grand for it still.. I don't think its worth that much brand new.. I went with Subaru at the time because I felt overall it was just better value for the money (granted yes they also have plenty of issues but I never had any). Mitsubishi may as well just pack it up and get out of the US market at this point. They offer nothing note worthy or competitive..

Evo4 Rally car was the one to beat in the late 90' they were killer. Seen a new Mitsubishi R5? 1.6 liter 380 HP yep they are still out there winning rallys all over the world.

The local lot always has a solid used inventory, none of which are Mitsubishi products. Seems like people trade in cars they can't afford payments/repairs on. They drive away in something new, decent on fuel with a 10 year warranty. Dealer makes a sale and profits big on the trade in.

The last thing they sold here that I liked was the Montero, It's still being sold some places.

I used to live overseas in the Philippines. There's tons of Mitsubishis there. They're quite popular in Asia. Both commercial vehicles and consumer cars like the montero

I find it fascinating how quickly the eclipse evolved from a tunable sports car to the car that every girl across every community college campus drove. It was the Beetle of the 90's, the car that said "Im cute and dont need no man to have fun." I'm guessing they ran with that concept, now the Eclipse says "Im still cute but I gotta get the kids to skating lessons tonight, maybe Tuesday night would be better for drinks?"

When the first Fast and Furious came out in the theaters, showing off that lime green eclipse with the dixie cup swoosh, I understood at that moment that this movie was not to be taken seriously.

My brother has a mid 90's one. Wide and low, that thing is a blast.

Oh for sure, even here I see a ton of Mitsubishi vehicles, new and old. I'd definitely check out a Triton if it was sold here. Which reminds me, who remembers these? Just saw one the other day for the first time in many years.

The Fuso is probably the best thing Mitsu makes. I think they even are available in 4WD

For a second I thought you were describing the Tacomas interior, they cost about the same now too.

That was the Mitsubishi Raider. It was a rebaged Dakota (obviously not the original Raider which was a Japanese SUV). That was about the last thing Chrysler and Mitsu did together

My second car was a 1992 3000gt SL and my 3rd car was a 1992 VR4. It was a fun car, but I was way too young and couldn't afford the maintenance. Or the tickets.

AWD and AWS were a beast in the snow and offroad. Photo above is in a dry lake bed up at Snoqualmie Pass in WA.
