This. All day, everyday. A good set of tires on OE wheels, combined with driving skills will get you places you'll be surprised about.

So if you are really 'overlanding', who does the field fix when it breaks? One of the principles of overlanding in real life is self reliance.

In your listing of 'stuff', don't forget the recovery gear, safety gear, survival gear and communications gear. That should roll up a few more Gs.

We did get out in the local dirt this past weekend just to become familiar with the truck. I have to say, once we got in more rock/vertical environment, the truck and esp the Crawl Control were pretty impressive!!!

 

Already got the recovery gear coming from Factor 55!!!

 

This. Plus if you do the installs yourself via University of Youtube, you can learn how it all goes together so when it breaks, you can fix it. And save money

^^^ listen to the man. Your light bar does no good if you are stuck miles from home with no cell service.

Yeah, I get it! But, for me...the difference in "HAVING/NEEDING" to perform the work on the trail vs. paying some else when in the city and it's available makes the difference.

 

Learn when it's easy man. Comfort of your driveway and a cold beer in hand. Don't wait till you are fixing it trailside in the dirt and 100 degrees out.

I take it the ropes are tow ropes and the strap is a recovery strap or vice-versa?

Keep in mind that bigger isn't always better. That biggest rated ARB strap doesn't stretch as much with our trucks and so doesn't work quite as well as the medium strength one. Both will work though. Just trying to dispense a lesson learned.

Yep! People at Factor 55 suggested both. I doubled up on the ropes on my own volition.

 

Get a winch rope extension and a snatch block or two as well, especially if you plan to be out by yourself “overlanding”.

 

We do have a Flatlink and rear hitch link coming!

 

I'll just add that I'd recommend picking up used products especially if you're new to this.

 

Those are cool “overlander” parts, but they aren’t a snatch block.

 

No, a winch extension is an extra length of cable you can hook to your winch line. Cuz the nearest tree is always 10 feet longer than you need it to be. The snatchblock is so you can double your winching power if you get mired down slope, in the mud etc.
