@SteddyTeddy I had my truck reflashed/updated at the dealership yesterday. My ECU went from 030 to 040. There's a print out a few pages back, bring it in and tell them you're having the symptoms that the print out describes. They'll test drive it, and hopefully get you sorted out.

@SteddyTeddy if you are going to the dealer, this is the key. You need to describe the symptoms and problems of the TSB to the dealer as the issue you are experiencing. If you just ask them to update the ecu, they’ll laugh at you and you’ll leave sad and disappointed

Which TSB should I refer too? I mean my truck has all the symptoms. Hole in power at low RPM, constantly hunts for gears on highway with any kind of incline or load, also has the clunk going into drive.

Thanks. I found at least 4 TSB's I can reference.

T-SB-0062-18 is a good one to reference, because the symptoms happen only at high altitude. You can tell them that you took a trip to the mountains, and while you were at high elevation, your truck had a bad stumble at wide open throttle takeoff. Unless your dealer is in the mountains, there is no way for them to do a test drive to verify, so they'll just have to take your word for it and apply the TSB. Some other TSB versions for this same ECU update list symptoms that can be tested at any altitude, and if you have the bad luck of that particular symptom not happening during the test drive (or a dealer who lies about test driving it and just claims it didn't exhibit the behavior), they might refuse to apply it.

When you go to the dealer don't tell them you want the update to install the tune. Dealers are trying to charge people $150+ for this free TSB

Wow. The successful Work Orders that folks have posted in the MT Update thread showed a consistent 0.4hr for the update. So, there is an established book rate for this and if someone got hosed to pay out of pocket, it should be right around $60.00. But as everyone knows, it takes a max of 10min of actual time to accomplish. Why dealers would fight this only to lose customer satisfaction over 10 real minutes is nothing short of baffling.

It seems like it from what gets posted around here.

Myself, I've had that view and experience for many years. Decades actually. Funny enough though, the dealers for our last four vehicle purchases have me thinking differently. In all, five different dealers were used for after-sales service and each have knocked it out of the park on several occasions. Either I found warranty work done right, free maint work done properly including fastener torque, TSBs ordered on my word, and / or standing behind me as the customer in cases where the manufacturer had issues.

Now, I am a certified cheapass with the bad luck to go with it. Considering that, I can't explain the good service that we have received over the past 5+ years. I have been happy with the results though.

Nice! I had only one taker when I borrowed the adapter prior to getting OVT. I was the one offering the beers since we were at my place. We also did some customizations while at.

I did get repaid with LED interior and license plate lights.

I was at monthly car show where a bunch of us meet and ended up doing most of the 3rd gens that showed up. There were a handful that the dealer said we're on the latest update, but in reality were on 04B00

I only need a beer to knock it out! Also, even some dealers don't read this part of the TSB...

    That is unreal.

It is funny how the biggest action on TW was the engine and AT tuning threads until the TSBs got rolled out and loaded. Now, we're pretty much left repeat threads about diff howl, diff weeping, MPGs, and dumpster fires. You'd think that Toyota and the dealers would be jumping on this, esp with the MPG bump.

It is pretty sad that I am surprised about it all.

I think it’s less surprise and more just actual WTF disbelief...they have so many people coming in asking for it for a reason, cause the stock non-updated experience sucks. Or I mean, is operating properly as designed..
