Hey, Bubba finished in P14 Saturday night. Ahead of Bowman, Logano, Dillons, Harvick, Almirola. Kept his nose clean, didn't overdrive the car. If he'd drive it like a 25th place car he'd probably finish in 20th.

Bubba Wallace has all my respect after being one to give KB the business... but hes still a subpar driver in a B or C class ride.

Matty D is in an OLDER GENERATION Gibbs designed chassis... and had it not been for the idiocy of Ryan Newman would have took them to school in it.

    Thoughts on the Gen7 car?

    What we know so far:
    • 18" wheels, low profile tires. (Current wheels are 15")
    • Smaller, possibly V6 hybrid engine w/ turbos.
    • Splitter.
    • High downforce.
I feel like when Keselowski and Blaney quit being competitive, the Wood Brothers hang it up, and the King kicks the bucket, I'll pack up and move on. I've been watching since 1985 and actively involved since 1991. That's a long time. I've seen some good stuff and had some amazing experiences and as time marches on, I'm not as into it because it doesn't hold that same excitement factor for me. I probably would've moved ono sooner if not for my kids enjoying it right along with me. Late models, bullrings, dirt tracks, sprint cars are where it seems to be at for raw, real racing.

Per my last post, I've had some cool experiences over the years. As best as I can remember, here are the highlights:

Attended '91 Pepsi 400- first Cup race. Saw DW flip and Bill win.
'92 Sat in the King's car. Saw Bill come back from 1-lap down to win Atlanta.
'93 Daytona 500. Saw rusty flip and Dale Jarrett win. Met Bill Elliott. Sat in his Bud #11 after Atlanta finale. He gave me a used tire.
'94 Speedweeks. Stood in victory lane w/ Dale Earnhardt after Busch race. Featured in Racing For Kids magazine.
'97 Atlanta- sat on pit road during qualifying. Saw Geoff Bodine set the track record at 197mph. Met Ernie Irvan, Derrick Cope, Todd Bodine, Bobby Hamilton, Michael Waltrip, Darrell Waltrip, Ray Evernham, Steve Park, Joe Nemechek, Terry Labonte, Bill Elliott. Mark Martin almost ran over me in the garage.
'98 Atlanta- Dale pushed me out of the way en route to check on Steve Park after his nasty qualifying wreck. Can say I was dumped by the Intimidator.

--It gets blurry from '99-'09. Went to college, got away from racing--

'10 Sat in pits for truck practice & qualifying at Darlington. Ticked off Mike Beam so bad he won't speak to me anymore.
'11 Pit road access for Southern 500. Met Leonard Wood. Saw Cale Yarborough and all drivers for intros.
'12 First visit to Talladega. Saw Jamie Mac win his last race. Mentioned on Wind Tunnel a bunch for various stuff.
'15 Took my kiddo to his first race. He got to climb in Joey's car after the race.
'16 Drove Ricky Stenhouse's car around Atlanta Speedway.
'17 Camped at Daytona for Clash and 500 quals. Free Rolex Suite with my kiddo. Met Sam Bass at Talladega. Went to Martinsville for the first time.
'19 Had dinner at Charlotte with Richard Petty, Kyle Petty, Harry Gant, Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Terry Labonte, Len Wood, Dave Marcis, Waddel Wilson.

    Tracks Attended:
    Atlanta Speedway
    Charlotte Speedway
    Darlington Raceway
    Martinsville Speedway
    Talladega Speedway

    Up Next:
    Bristol
    Richmond
    Indy

V6 and hybrids would make me dip. I mean I'm all about the V8s here... This small motor crap is what F1 and Indy is about.... Keep the V8 and muscle style cars in nascar...

Detroit has been pushing NASCAR to go to V6 since the late '80s. The Busch series became the testing ground for that effort and it was supposed to happen by '93 but Jeff Gordon came along, ratings spiked and they never made the shift as planned. Jeff Gordon's dominance literally stopped NASCAR from switching to V6 a quarter-century ago. I was a big proponent of anything mechanical to bring NASCAR into the modern age. From safety components to fuel injection. I've been to 5-6 Indycar races since the V6 switch and it's pretty nice. The cars still sound mean-ish, the turbo lag is awesome, and they freaking fly. Best part is I can talk to my friends without yelling. I've mentioned here before how NASCAR hired Jack Roush to develop 302 engines for Cup racing in an effort to slow them down a bit but maintain a V8 sound. The dang whiz managed to get the motors turning speeds and times equal with the 351. If we were to go to a smaller V8 (my desire), they'd still have to regulate them with a tapered spacer.

Tapered spacer is trash. They are already reducing to the go to laughable numbers for the next package... Y not go unrestricted.

I'm like you... I've been in the sport for serious since '93 (search the thread for my story...) and for the last decade I've been on the verge of walking away my damn self. They switch to the v6 and I'm gone
Wow... finally another Irvan fan. Awesome.

Guys as a preview for the V6 sound, you can listen to my truck and imagine that for 4 hours..... Redditt seems to refuse to hear such a testament, but the top stock car series shouldnt sound like my 13 model year old clapped out yota.

I saw his son, Jared run in a #28 throwback at Anderson Speedway last year. It was CARS or PASS tour.

Amen! I live in the heart of short track racing here in East Tennessee. I haven't watched Nascar in a long time. I love the authenticity, sound , and price of dirt track racing

I'm fine with the idea of smaller engines. NASCAR hit its biggest boom when they stopped running big blocks and long wheel base cars. They brought the race cars into consumer relevance in the early '80s. That delivered some classic race cars. Besides the COT and EFI, we've basically been running the same formula since '81. It's time to bring the cars into relevance again. I *guess* that means bigger wheels, but whatever. I don't prefer it. If anything, the tires need to be less wide. I'm part of the 4/4/4 brigade and believe in eliminating side skirts, bringing back ride height, factory body panels, and front valences.

Toyota has some decent 4.0 liter V8s that were used in the Lexus SC. Chevy has a 3.9 from the Malibu and Pontiac G6. Ford has the 3.7 for the Mustang. A sub 4.0 liter engine formula would be fun. Tear up the rulebook and let teams experiment with natural aspiration, EFI, and turbos. Let V6s and V8s compete against each other.

Oh man. I've had cool NASCAR experiences and I'm so thankful to include my kiddo in cool experiences, too. Team Penske just called me to tell me they're sending a hat and some hero cards to my kiddo prior to next week's race. We'll be on pit road prior to the race and he's crossing his fingers and toes that he'll get to meet his favorite, Joey.

I'm trying to coordinate a meet & greet with Chase Briscoe as my kiddo is a fan and Chase is much more accessible than Joey.
