Well, i’ve seen the service manager so many times over this issue that I almost feel like he sympathizes with me to an extent. The truck got the low engine oil light almost right out the door, so everyone there has been aware that it’s been an issue from the get go (possibly before I bought the truck) and they’re willing remediate the fault.

But I’ll say this; there is no high porosity issue with the upper oil pan. They are feeding you a line to cover up the fact that they sold a vehicle that was clearly damaged on trade in.

I was wondering about that. Toyota Berkeley told me someone must have damaged it when the timing chain cover was done, and that’s what sounds most plausible. I never considered that it’s a cover up term.

This is the only picture i’ve seen of it. It very much looks like a crack. But if that’s what they want to say and I get it fixed...

when i was in the PNW i came up with a metric to demonstrate their shitty style of driving: MTBL - mean time before left. it's the count, in seconds, before the asshole in the left turn lane makes any forward progress at all. in CA, for example, if you go beyond a 2 (one-one thousand, two-one thousand) the vehicle behind you will become annoyed, perhaps yell or honk, but definitely notice the poor decision making and lack of pro-socialness demonstrated by the vehicle ahead. in Chicago, there will be a 1.75 count before you get a polite, 'hey, let's go buddy' honk. in the PWN the average time is about 3.25 seconds. so at any given light, at any time, you'll get, on average over three-Mississippi before the Prius ahead of you even moves. it's common for 6 vehicles to be in the left turn lane and only two get through the light. this is fact as shown by my science here.

how about San Jose, what's the metric here? how about average time at a light where there is no vehicle in the intersection. almost all of SJ traffic signals are on timers and the timers are set for high traffic times (presumably) where long signals are needed. this works most of the time because there is almost always high traffic. but when the traffic is not as heavy, and even when it is heavy the timing seems to be so poorly contrived that more often than not when you're sitting at a light in San Jose, there will be nobody proceeding through the intersection. check it out.

i don't have a number for San Jose waiting time because, in the end, i'm just trying to bitch here. but seriously, how many times do 14 vehicles need to be parked at an intersection with nobody fucking moving. c'mon horse shit infastructure. thanks for listening.

I know in SF the lights are all timed superbly...poor. Light just turned green, alright we can go! Next light turns red. Goes on and on. Now when these streets are jam packed full of cars it’s a different story. Lights go about their business but they don’t turn green in an order that would help. So every block is full of cars right? Why in this situation does the very first light that we started at turn green first? And then each light after starts turning. None of the cars at the back of the line can go anywhere. By the time any of the cars have made space to move the light has already turned red.

    Some really cool shit

That stuff really pisses me off. Which brings me to this part of my Rubicon trip that upset me greatly. What with all the TREAD LIGHTLY, and leave it better than you found it, people are still losers. While we were camped at Bucks Island Lake Tuesday night I walked over to examine a camp spot that looked amazing. A rig had been in there when we first pulled up so we camped nearby, instead. Later the rig left the area so I walked through the grove of trees around the campsite at waters edge, I saw no less that 8 spots where people had taken a crap, and left toilet paper. Not even the decency to bury it, which by the way, is no great move in an area that sees thousand and thousands a year. And so close to the water. It's why jeep clubs built vault toilets all along the trail.
