Rust doesn't happen overnight. Those swiss cheese frames you see are from many years of being oblivious and ignoring it.

Keep an eye on it, wash the underside religiously to keep the salt from sitting on it, and treat with something like fluid film seasonally.

 

Not the rust belt. Fluid film once a year and wrap or derp the hood and top of the cab, or give it a good wax a couple times a year. The sun and salt mist tends to destroy the flat surfaces first in the mid Atlantic states

 

welcome to hell, well at least a few weeks of summer with high temps and high humidity. then at times it will even seem like hell is frozen over for a few weeks in the winter.

Btw if your a gun guy MD is better than cali when it comes to guns. not great but better.

 

i meant that did Tacoma owners in MD receive official notice regarding the frame issues when they first started, say about 10yrs ago

very interesting, so the winter climate conditions in MD are much more severe that required a notice than they are in the west midwest (IA MO NE KS SD ND)

 

Much worse west of the I95 corridor. Police would hand out tickets if your license plate was obscured by salt encrustation.
Places where salt trucks had to stop/pause like a stop sign, could accumulate salt inches deep.

 

I’m gonna suggest no car cover and fluid film the living shit out of the underside

 

California has very little humility.

Maryland Has huge humidity.

When it rains, which is very often, it rains in buckets of water for hours.
It’s not the winter that you have to worry about, it’s all the time.

You will get surface rust no if and or buts and more.

Have the frame completely wreath proofed before you go to Maryland.

Maryland the rust will appear over night on ANY bare metal that’s not fully painted and sealed.

I was in Los Angeles last year and I swear I’ve never seen so many 1st gen tacoma in my life in great condition, literally everywhere just doing their thing like every other car or truck there

 

If you have "clean road" tires that still have a lot of tread life, you may want to get an old set of rims and some decent A/T tires. Even if you buy a used set just to throw on for a month or two in the worst part of Winter. That's what I do. I have some old 15" rims with ATs that came on my trucks, then 16" rims with reg tread for the other 9 months.

I am trying this 303 stuff that works well against UV but still has issues getting washed right off with heavy rain, car wash, etc.

 

POR everything if you really wanna overkill and make sure you are good. From what I know its a decent area, I am assuming you are moving for work.

do you know how many multiple 100s of dollars it is to replace once it gets all brittle from sun,etc.
i estimate more than $500 for the rubber parts (at camelback which has the lowest cost i have seen)

 

mine were too once! the sun really takes its toll! as well as humidity i think

but of course since I have black paint it probably shows much more if the rubber is greying

 

Surface rust absolutely does, I live there for 8 years, No not Swiss cheese, but surface rust yes if there are any bare spots unlike the west coast
