Anyone else in here have a cat with gnarly bodega breath?

My tuxedo cat Harley has the most god awful breath I've ever smelled come out of a living creature. Seriously if he licks himself within a few feet of me it can be bad enough to make me want to move lol.

His teeth look normal and at his last vet visit she didn't say anything about them, but I forgot to ask about his breath (don't know if it was as bad when he last went to the vet)....but my wife's cats both have normal cat breath. Not something you'd want to smell on purpose but not enough to make you see double like Harley's.

Not sure what to do, any advice? I know I could brush his teeth but as most cat owners are probably aware, that's no easy task. I'll give it a try though and see if that helps.

edit - just read up on Periodontal Disease, apparently it's the #1 leading cause of bad breath in cats. Looks like I need to schedule him for a deep teeth cleaning at the vet.

Ours like to body slam our front door at 3am and scare the living **** out of us. Our front door has big windows and we keep the porch light on, so they go nuts trying to catch the flies and moths on the other side of it.

I wanted to get in on the Toe Bean action earlier but the kitties don't appreciate getting their pictures taken. Finally, Emmeline fell asleep with her paws up. We call her Pink Paw Kitty because she has 3 black toe beans (and paws) and, you guessed it, 1 pink paw. Here she is giving me her look of dismay for having taken her pic without permission.

    $35 for a set of 4 isn't bad for homemade/handmade coasters, I don't think.

If it was per individual then yeah lol. That's what I thought at first

Some cats are genetically predisposed to it, vet told me he's pulled all the teeth on one year old cats before. I took mine in twice for cleaning and now he doesn't have any teeth left because they kept having to pull teeth. But his breath is way better, and he now loves having his chin scratched.

Playing with a string will never be the same though. He thinks he has it, then it just falls out and he stares at it laying on the floor, wondering where he went wrong.

LOL poor dude. Is he able to eat soft food still? I hope it doesn't come down to pulling his teeth, I'll set up an appt with his vet and see what they say. Hopefully he just needs a good deep cleaning

He likes shoving his nose/mouth in one of the other cat's buttholes 20x a day so that probably isn't helping his breath at all

Yeah he does soft food fine. Licks it into oblivion. In theory they can still do dry food, but I think he's just overall better off with wet.

A vet should be able to figure it out, although mine called me mid cleaning to tell me they felt it would be better to just pull them. They left the little ones on the front bottom since they're structurally important to the jaw and they haven't been a problem.

Harley absolutely loves hair ties, goes nuts for them. But we have to keep them hidden from him because he'll eat them in seconds. If he knows where we hide them he'll try and get them when we're not looking, he's opened my wife's purse before and pulled them out.

Lol. Mal used to play fetch with them. He would bring them back and everything. He has become less interested with age though.

He also has been known to swipe the cheese off my chicken parmesan. He gets you to trust him, and then surprises you in the silliest ways.

Can't believe how active Rascal is today and she's 10 yrs old , she's running from one end of my house to the other in what looks like fast wind sprints . I know that Domestic cats can reach speeds of up to 30mph and Rascal is proving that !!!!

My living room has wood floors and the sound her paws make during these full speed sprints sounds like I've got a large breed dog running around . Gizmo who's 5 yrs old tried chasing her and gave up after just a few minutes !!!
