I think tan looks best on any color truck that's been lifted on wheels. I think it looks goofy on a stock tacoma.

I have the gray on mgm.

Grey on black will just look like a black topper thats hella faded...would go with black. Tan only looks good on certain applications.

    Black it is! Thanks.

Just ordered it. Don't want to play the game trying to find a used one.

Good choice. After 3 years my black Softopper is still looking great, although slightly faded. It's in use 99% of the time in the California sun so I'm happy with it.

Actually just finished applying 303 for protection this morning.

Brand new rear window, never even taken off the tissue paper. Factory fresh, just got it today. They wouldn't swap it for a plain fabric panel so I had to get it with my new ST order. Made for 2nd gen but I think they fit both gens? $40. SOLD

I had (still have just not on the truck) the first production Can-Back. Served my well for 10 years and is still functioning as a topper on my toyota truck bed camper. I built the external rack later with an expanded steel floor so I could carry additional exterior gear. I'll post a pic of the trailer set up with it. Pretty trick.

Here's the trailer with the now 15-year old Can-Back and utility rack. Its actually a Chevy Luv bed but everyone always assumes its an old Toyota or Datsun. Custom wheel covers so the tires don't cook in the AZ sun.

I've had my new truck 2 weeks.

Went on a fucking spree, figured I just do it all now and be done with it. Ha! Like that's even possible.

I was up in the air about a Softopper on a short bed - just don't think I'll use the bed the same way I used a 6' bed - but in the end I dig the look and my dogs liked the old one so I bought a new one.

Just switched my bed rack setup and put mine on recently. I need to adjust some things to try and get some of the creases out. Love it so far, it looks like its going to serve exactly the purposes I want it for perfectly. If anyone has any suggestions on what needs to be adjusted from what they can see I'd love to hear it. I've played around with the straps but it seems I may need to adjust the rail itself, out a little maybe in either front or back.

LOOKS GOOD! I think some of the creases will come out once it warms up and it gets some sun

I have 4 questions for those that have the Bestop Softopper's.
    • First, how do you go about dealing with the windows and not allowing them to crap especially during the winter?
      • I had the tailgate opening window crack on me two winters ago as I went to close it one early morning after camping all weekend. Luckily I had a spare one, but didn't install it until spring time.
    • Second, how have you fixed the window next to the back of the cab from not flapping against the back window?
      • I have a crack in the window, because it will flap against the cab. This is caused from the velcro not wanting to stay and allows for air to catch under the window when the bed is empty enough for enough air to flow through. Its even the heavy duty velcro too.
    • Third, has anyone put either Plastidip or spray paint on the windows to black them out? If you did, did you put it on the inside, outside or both inside and outside? Did you do two different colors? I was wanting to do at least Black on the outside and then a white on the inside.
    • Fourth, what have you used for both the fabric and zippers as maintenance? Also, anything for the windows?
I would eventually like to get the Softopper brand and get rid of the Bestop, but that's going to be a while.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Good questions.

    Most here have SoftToppers.

ST have snaps on the inside of the front of the bed that you attach a front flap to. This reduces the flapping.

ST does not have side plastic windows, do we can't answer.

We use seam sealer on the fabric seams. I don't use anything on the zippers.

I never fold the STer when temps are below 40* F to avoid cracking the back or front plastic window.

I like the looks of a BTer, but I liked the STer a little better, plus not having to deal with side windows.
