have an 05 Tundra 4.0 with a timing cover leak. Thought it was power steering but I guess not. Read a forum and some guy mentioned that a too tight fitting power steering pump is what is prying away the timing cover and causing the leaks. Any truth to this? This is the only place I read this.

Read that it could be a simple fix of filing down some the power steering pump at the mounting brackets and then re-tightening and that's it?

I had always heard the robot forgot/didn't put gasket sealer on a spot of the timing cover. My FJ is a victim of this but it's not real bad.

I've seen several threads on 4Runner and Tacoma forums saying the same thing, with pics showing how/why it happens. I'll see if I can find one.

Does anyone know a temporary fix/patch to stop the leaking. The oil is no longer just seeping and dirtying the engine block, there are drips collecting on the power steering and staining the engine cross member and dripping on the ground too.

Use Mr gasket sealer after cleaning area with brakecleen. Apply along the timing cover seal

Okay, so I had this same issue when I purchased my 07 Taco. The outside of the engine was covered in a thick layer of dried oil. In fact, it smelled of burning oil once the truck reached operating temp. In an effort to locate the issue, I degreased the entire engine bay with Gunk degreaser and a wire brush. I then rinsed everything down and used Simple Green to get the leftovers. After monitoring the truck for a week or so, it appeared that the timing cover/power steering pump had a seep. I replaced some of the PS fluid with Lucas Stop Leak and started using Valvoline High Mileage Synthetic Blend. I don’t know what it was, but the issue stopped with the combo. I no longer have a puddle of oil on the ground every morning.

I'm guessing an additive in the High Mileage oil is making your seals swell just enough to pluf up the gap. I would like to do this fix myself but don't have room in the garage to this fix, I'm gonna save up and get this taken care of down the road God willing.
