I’m considering purchasing a leveling kit for my 2017 TRD Off Road and am curious as to just how much it will affect gas mileage. I travel anywhere from 60-80 miles round trip for work 4-5 times a week and right now I’m getting around 22-23mpg. I want the look of a leveling kit, plus the ability to get some slightly larger tires when it comes time, but if it’s gonna absolutely kill my mileage then it might not be worth it.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

    Thanks,
    Max

In short, the leveling kit in itself will not kill your gas mileage (not enough to really make a difference). Larger/heavier tires will however. Load range e tires (10 ply) are heavier than say load range c tires (6 ply). People who offroad frequently often purchase 10 ply’s for the thicker sidewall. If you move up in tire sizes, your mileage will be effected. I run KO2’s in 265/75/r16 range E and get around 15 mpg’s around the city or 18 highway.

Bilsteins 5100s on the top setting, 4runner Gray TRD Pro Sema wheels, 285/70/17 Toyo AT3s, Sumo Bump stops, TRD exhaust, ECGS Clamshell bushing, 1/4 shim for the lean and one inch rear block, OEM Pro grill and garnish OEM TRD Skid plate, TRD CAI, Demon Brackets, Rigid Industries Pro fog lights, OEM Trail Rails sidebars, Diode Dynamics LED SL1 high and low beam lights, OEM Roof racks, Clazzio leather heated seats, Remote Start, TRD Pro shift knob, tinted windows, Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp for the headunit and sub and amp combo, OEM Puddle lights, OEM tailgate lock, OEM bed mat, LED interior lights, OEM blackout kit for letters, JLT catch can, upgraded 27F toyota True Start battery, Vleds led tail light kit with Pro tail lights, OEM Rave4 side mirrors with convex spotters, just to name a few mods.
I'm lifted in the front about 2 1/2 and the rear 1 inch not including the slight lift because of the slightly larger tires. I run 265/70/17 Toyo Open Country at2s and they are in a SL rating. Sothe weight of the new tires and 4runner sema wheels are almost the same weight I didn't see hardly any decrease in mileage. Get an SL rated tire any you should be fine.

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.

The mpg impact with the leveling kit alone will be negligible. I'd encourage you to add the leveling kit before switching tires so you can verify just how little the mpg changes.
