Yep, it's a Kilroy, great little kayak for fly fishing.

Much appreciated! I forgot it open one time with a trailer hooked up but luckily I made a left turn so it didn't crush the swingout haha.

I'm running a bruteforce high clearance with a single swingout. This allows me to carry 2 spares and I'm not dragging my receiver all the time offroad anymore.

Visibility isn't great but I can still see well enough and I relocated my backup cam and have the ability to turn it on anytime if needed.

It's not a big deal to open it to get into the bed if needed and I've never been in a situation where I didn't have room to open it. A longer swingout could be problematic though. Also, a table would be pointless since the swingout is barely longer that my tailgate when everything is open.

One inconvenience is that I have to remove the spare from the swingout when towing our travel trailer because the tongue jack on the trailer contacts the tire. This isn't a problem with our boat or a utility trailer that I borrow a few times a year. Another inconvenience is when hauling things that are longer than the bed you can't leave the tailgate down.

Your build looks badass and functional!

I really didn't even think about hauling stuff with the tailgate down! I have a short bed and when I transport stuff for projects I need the tailgate down. That will be a big consideration.

I train classes in the field and use my truck as a rally point (mainly because of the awning. I sunburn indoors, ha!). The table would be nice but with a dual swing I think it would be pretty small.....

Hauling stuff isn't that much of an issue for me. These were 10' 2x4's but I could easily haul longer timbers. The ones in the bed were 6 footers. Granted you could run then through the cap and cab if you don't have roof racks but when in Rome..

I am looking for feedback about rear bumpers with swing out spare tire carriers.

How's your visibility effected? I tend to use my side mirrors more anyways but it will have an impact. Blocks some annoying headlights though.

Why did you choose a single or dual swing out? I went with the dual so I could do water/gas carrier and full size spare tire. Also my water pump easily reaches the carrier.

Would you change anything about your setup? Maybe only to shift my water/gas carrier over a few inches for other unforeseen items

Is the built in table worth the $150+ ? Not for me though I liked the idea. Like mentioned, with tailgate down, it's kind of a waste. IMO

Powder coat, Line-X or rattle can? Powder coat

I did have to use an extension from Harbor Freight and drill an additional hole to be able to use my bike rack

Well I'm a 3rd gen but the form and function are basically the same for all your questions.

    How's your visibility effected?
With no bed rack I lost about 1/2-2/3's of the visibility from the rear view. I almost always have my mid height bedrack on which causes me to lose all rear view mirror visibility.
Why did you choose a single or dual swing out?
I chose to go with the single swing out for cost and a bigger table.
Would you change anything about your setup?
If I did it over I would go with dual swing out for less weight and room needed to open.
Is the built in table worth the $150+ ?
The one on my single I find useful but I honestly rarely use it. I dont think I would spend the money for one on a dual swing out.
Powder coat, Line-X or rattle can?
Powder coat. Yes if you use your truck you will scratch it off and I'm ok with that and touch it up with spray on bed liner. I painted my front bumper and decided from them on all bumpers will get an initial powder coat and then just touch it up with paint.

I wheel allot more than I go touring in the Tacoma so I bought this bumper. Dual swingout bars with extra pipe armor on the sides.

It works great and does what I wanted it to do. Departure is much better, I can still tow, and the side bars keep my taillight assemblies intact. I never moved the backup camera so the tire blocks about 85% of its view but I grew up using mirrors so no real annoyance to me.

Pulling the bed and bumper off soonish to take a different turn with it but I have no problem recommending them to those that are interested.

Have you thought about a tiregate?

I do agree with many that i wouldnt go back to a swingout style ever. The tiregate at least kept the tire close to the truck but i use my truck bed too much. It was annoying to open, annoying to have to grab the trailer for stuff that otherwise could have been in the bed.

I still had plenty of room to see though and i had relocated the camera so that wasnt an issue.

I have my 315/75/16 shoved in the stock location under the bed currently. I got tired of moving it in and out. If i go wheeling id move it into the bed though

Absolutely. I have a Front Runner on my cab but need a rack for the shell. The wife frequently finds large odd shaped things for me to restore and make nice. Living in Southeast GA there are plenty of back roads to take and slow roll it home. In those cases I could remove the tire and drive with the dual swing open I'd think.

Your truck looks so good man. I wish I had windoors!

Yup. Most of the time I load the cap but sometimes I run out of room on top and have to use the bed too.

Makes sense! After reading a bunch of feedback here I am definitely going dual-swing. I love your air setup. I am building a powered water pump kit and it is leading me to consider mounting the water on the other swing side and either connecting the powered pump there or keeping it mounted in the cab and then running the hose to it as needed.

As for visibility it seems to impact it but I haven't heard anyone really say it is a safety concern.

I might punt on the table since it'll be small and try to build my own.

Fantastic build man! Best looking 3rd Gen I've seen. Thanks for the input! Definitely going to powder coat it. Did you relocate your rear cam?

I really like your point on touring vs wheeling. I also grew up using mirrors but fur sure love big visibility. The trucks we used overseas had zero visibility so I'm not overly concerned but really like hearing what you all have to say. That Flip Pack is badass!!

It for sure resonates that many people found extra irritation in daily function with the swing out.

A tire gate wouldn't work for me because I need to secure items in the shell. I think they look sweet though and are a perfect option if you're running an open bed! I have too much going on in my shell.

Yes, its been moved to the swing out with a camera bracket made by a company who is no longer around. I pulled the wire harness that goes into the tailgate from under the bed and extended it about a foot.

My BruteForceFab single swing is somewhere between ordered and fabricated. I went single swing with table. I've definitely heard the dual swingouts have tiny tables that aren't much use, but the single swing table is usually worth it. I don't plan on mounting a spare on it, I'll have a case with my eccotemp L5 water heater with 12v water pump in it's place. Will also have a water jug and propane on the swingout so my entire hot water system will be there. Figure the table will make a great place to wash dishes.

I’ve got a HC Rear bumper w/ single swing out by @SOS CONCEPTS. I love it. Didn’t have much visibility out the back of the truck to begin with. Between 5% tint all the way around and a tinted camper shell my loss of visibility was minimal. You will need to do a back up camera relocation if you want to continue using the one located in the tailgate. I went with a single swing out for simplicity and added bed side protection. Eddy’s design works really nice and I’ve found it seconds as a step allowing easy access to my RTT or whatever I’m carrying on my roof at the time. If I really wanted to I can basically encompass my truck without ever touching the ground going from sliders to tire/bumper etc. I rattle canned my sliders bc they’re meant to take damage, the rear I had done with a textured powder coat because I wanted it done right and wanted it to last. No table but my buddy had one last week when I went camping and it was nice, wouldn’t mind having one after seeing how convenient it can be.

This is so cool! I'm not running big tires so it might make more sense for me to run water on one side and a cooler on the other.
I'm putting this together next weekIMG_20190823_122026768_HDR.jpg
