Accuracy, capacity, comfort, control, conceal-ability etc. There is almost always some sort of compromise.

For home and personal defense, a larger frame would be just fine. If this is your first, I venture to say that you probably don't have a ton of experience shooting handguns. So practice with a full frame, then move on to a sub-compact. I prefer to keep the family the same. So if I had a full frame M&P 9mm, I'd probably go with the M&P Shield in 9mm. Controls and feel are usually very similar so translating from full frame to sub-compact is much easier than switching manufactures and models around.

Lol don’t buy a hipoint. Why would buy something so cheap? Is your family’s life and your life only worth a cheap handgun? It’s like buying a motorcycle helmet. It’s the only thing keeping you alive if you crash so why buy a $200 helmet. The cost difference between a hipoint and, say a Glock, is minimal but the quality difference is high.

also the glock 19 is a great gun but be advised it doesnt have a safety. I have children and am not comfortable with any gun that doesnt have a manual safety.

Not if you're looking to commit a crime I guess? But yeah, they are made cheaply of cheap metals.

I wouldn't recommend the Kimber but I do find it quite accurate for a SC. It has a helluva kick tho, being a 9mm in that small frame.

Curious, why? I like my 24-7. Not super accurate but it seldom misfires like the Kimber did out of the box.

G19, S&W M&P 2.0C, CZ P10C... they are all in the 15+ round range, are small enough to conceal but big enough to give you a good grip and ease of shooting. I have carried and shot all sizes from a Kel-tec PF9 to a 1911. Weight and width are the primary factors for comfort. But my go to will always be either a G19 or M&P 2.0C.... reliable, easy to shoot an all around performers.

DO NOT get a Hi-point... they are surprisingly reliable guns... but they are neither easy to shoot (because of their blow back, heavy slide design) nor do they have good sights... and forget trying to carry them.

the micros misfire across the board for whatever reason.

But bolded the reason. They had some defects a few years ago that people lost a lot of trust and faith in them and serious quality issues.

just googling taurus gun problems yields alot of complaints and results, and for op in particular hes looking for a self defense gun.

Not a chance id bet my life on a hitpoint or a taurus.

As an NRA Instructor I would tell you this:
1- you choose a firearm this fits you.. not one that just looks perty.. if it doesn’t fit you(proper finger and hand position) you won’t be able to properly use it; esp dangerous if you plan to carry
2- be sure you have what it takes and are willing to live with the consequences should you ever have to drop the hammer on someone

Don’t let a CCW give you a false sense of security either.

Honestly that's probably a pretty lousy choice for a 'first gun' option.
    Lots of muzzle flash
    Generally a heavy trigger pull
    Short sight radius
More felt recoil over a similarly-sized semi automatic

If going with a revolver for a 'first gun' you really should have at least a 4 inch barrel, in my opinion

and to add I bought a .380 bodyguard which doesnt have the best reviews either. Sub compacts doesnt really have alot of great options. :fingerscrossed:

kinda pickin at the bottom of the barrel.

Shooting skills are perishable just like anything else. You don’t practice they don’t work. Taking a one day class doesn’t prepare you for taking someone’s life so think hard before you decide to carry. As a combat vet it’s just my opinion.

It took some effort to work out the issues with the Kimber but I trust it at this point.
