Car cover questions for the experts

What is the best car cover construction? I'm looking at one that has a fleece inner liner, but own one for my 4Runner that is just one layer of non-woven spun-bond polyester. Waterproof, but lets moisture out from underneath on the molecular level. Good enough for the girls I go with.

Those of you with expensive cars: What do you recommend that is best for the clearcoat considering long-term inside storage? Just the light one layer of non-woven, or the one on sale with fleece, three layers of non-woven with an outer layer of heavy non-woven? Seems a little overkill for me in that I'm storing my G8 inside all the time.

MAIN WORRY: will the fleece produce micro-abrasions in the G8's clearcoat? Thanks!

 

For inside storage: California car cover has a dust stop cover which is what I use for my classic car. I either clean the car (and let it dry) or use a duster before I put the cover on.

 

Think that's the issue with any cover. It's like a wash mitt or drying towel, doesn't matter how soft and non marring it is, run it across the paint enough times and eventually it's going to catch a piece of dirt that will abrade the paint. So if you can limit covering the car until it's clean would be the safest practice.

Considering all the sun and environment damage the cover will protect against it's likely worth a micro scratch here and there.

Probably need to get some kind of tote with a lid for when the cover isn't on the car.

During pollen season down here in the Big Thicket, where there is greater bio-density than any place in the US, meaning pollen like you have never experienced. CLOUDS of pollen blowing out of the trees. Piles of pollen. Drifts of pollen. Starting in late-February through late May. Detailing is completed here before January ends and anything you really care about goes inside for the duration. I have other transportation, sacrificial lambs, for this period. Been using two kingsize sheets, po'-boying it. This, only $37. The one for the G8 is only $19. I'll use them once and dispose after the end of pollen season. Even with hot water you'd never get all of the crystalline pollen out of it washing it, would just transfer it to the inside, then would be a clearcoat grinder the second year. Thanks guys!
