Most glass places will likely use the same kit that you can get cheap off Amazon and the markup is ridiculous. It's likely that it can't be fixed with the kit but at least it can prevent further spread of the damage. It doesn't seem bad enough to fail inspection but more of a visual annoyance while driving. Personally, I would attempt DIY repair kit just to prevent the further spread and live with it until you decide to replace it. May want to avoid using the defroster vents until you fix it. Changes in temp may cause it to get worse.

Try a repair but honestly, if its in your line of sight, just get a new windshield

Years ago a golf ball broke the windshield in my first gen. I felt like I was driving a brand new truck when I got it replaced. Was clean as a whistle!

I got glass protection on my insurance .. it added like $3 / month with a $100 deductible.

So happy I did it.. it’s nice feeling covered with that.

Hope yours gets replaced, sucks it happened!

No glass coverage, ouch. I always splurge for the full glass protection, it's well under $20 for the entire year. It's the one thing I have almost no control over other then not tailgating.

If its in your line o sight tho... replace asap.

Ironically we don't have inspection in California and/or Nevada depending on where OP lives but it is illegal to drive with a cracked windshield as far as I know but it's rare to get pulled over.

I completely agree with you though. Try the kit, live with it, replace the whole thing later.

If he lives in the Sierra's the crack's going to get way worse in winter even with the repair no matter what...

Allstate(California) costs me $18/yr for all glass coverage. Of course I find this out after I replaced the windshield and rear passenger window(theft break in) out of pocket within the same year.

I called up Advanced Auto Glass, those guys have provided great onsite service.
I’ve always used PGW branded replacement windshields. So far only required two windshield replacements since 2006.

For the passenger rear they were able to find me a salvaged genuine tinted glass for le$$ than an aftermarket ... only difference is that they had to etch out the “Toyota” logo which is not noticeable.

Call your local Toyota dealer and ask them who they use. Save up $200 and get it replaced. Well, you're CA, be more like $500 :anonymous:

Just drive it. I've had a pillar to pillar crack across the bottom 3rd of the windsheild for a year now. No hassles...other than when I am being followed by a cop.

Its taken a few good dingers since then, so I'd say money well (not) spent instead of 3 new windshields.
