So my dad and I are gunna start offering modified tundra racks like what Solo Motorsports sells to you guys if there is enough interest.

What we are offering: a 2007 tundra steering rack that is taken apart, machined to Tacoma width, ported for more flow, and all new grease and seals upon reassembly.

We will be selling a completed rack for 1000$ plus shipping

Or: you source your own rack and ship it to us for machining for 750$ plus shipping.

Or: you get your own rack do your own disassembly and send us the rack gear and control valve assembly and we do the machining for 450$ plus shipping.
Going this route you will need to purchase a seal kit which can be found on Rock Auto, or Amazon.

Links to videos describing some of the process:

We need at least 5 orders to do a run at a time for it to be worth mine and his time.

    Thank you,
    Travis

PS: this modification requires some competent fabrication to be installed into your vehicle, new barrels need to be installed into your crossmember and the steering shaft shortened to accommodate the larger rack...all of which is not terribly complicated for any competent shop or driveway welder to accomplish.

And of course is intended for OFFROAD USE ONLY! applications.

I will do my best to update this post for more information as time goes on.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
I knew there was a guy talking about doing this with his dad awhile back, but didn't put the two together until now. Awesome setup, I will look send you the steering rack gear and valve assembly. Is this option only available from an '07 Tundra? Not sure what years the racks remained the same in the Tundras.

    A thing or two...
Will these be tapped 1/2-20 as in the video, or will you be getting the proper metric tap? If you're sticking with the SAE thread, will you be supplying the inner tie rod clevis adapter bolts shown in the videos?

Why did you tap them 1/2-20?

Is it preferred for folks to source stuff on their own or do you have a reliable platform to get the 5 tundra racks for the preorder?

Do you have pictures of the install fabrication? E.g. the new frame barrels and the shorter steering shafts? On a 4x4 truck ideally...

Can the factory ps pump keep up with the flow and size of the tundra rack. Only sucky part is having to use the Tacoma tie rods

Yea it handles it just fine...and this would be a good time to convert over to a hiemed steering rod as well

    Then modify your steering shaft...
I ended up cutting it flush at the yoke...then drilled the yoke out to fit a new rod piece in because I cut it a smidge too short and then double pass tig welded the spline section back on...but removing the big collapsible section makes it clear the frame without having to clearance the frame

How much did you have to cut off the steering shaft

Overall I think it ended up being like 1.5-2" shorter...exactly how much depends on where the rack is..the upper shaft section telescopes soo you have some wiggle room.

Like I said, this isnt 100% bolt on...and requires a lil brain power and fabrication...but the end result...is a steering system that works 100 times better especially with larger tires 37s

Finally got the chance to watch the videos. Excellent work! It was almost satisfying to watch.

So you are cutting the Tundra rack down to the correct width for the 2nd gen so this should work with OE width, not soley LT?

Is there only 2 videos! I feel left hanging!
