Antenna snapped off. I assumed it broke at the base, so I bought a new antenna with the expectation that I would have to drill out the base. However, it looks like this (see picture). I then thought that maybe it just came loose and pulled out. However, this "cup" doesn't appear to have any threads.

Now I don't know if this cupped piece is part of the stem that broke off and I need to drill it out? Or was the threads a sleeve that was pulled out? Re-thread this cup?

Something so simple, but it has me stumped.

Someone broke it off,you will have too use a small screw driver and hammer to tap the nut off.

Gonna have to replace the entire antenna body, and not just the mast?

Maybe not, if you can get the old broken part out?
Going by the picture, the threads in base look pretty rough.
If you do get the broken piece out, screw in the new antenna and see if it gets tight.
If it does good, if not, you’ll likely have to replace the base.

But that's what I'm asking. Is that a piece of the old stem in there? The stem was hollow?

I guess I don't know what this looks like compared to if the mast/stem is taken out.

If it's just part of the stem broken off inside, then I can tap that out I would think.

Threads should be under that black ring sticking up, the center is that gold color. As the other poster mentioned, gonna need to get that black piece out and hope those threads look ok. They look pretty beat up and possibly took part of the threads with the broken off piece.

Okay, I'll work on it either later tonight or tomorrow. Just had a storm roll in.

Does anyone happen to know the thread size?

@Ren You don't need to remove the "black piece" or the entire antenna assembly.

See the image below. You only need to drill the small stub that is screwed into the housing.

It looks like someone has beaten the crap out of that already.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I was able to get it out by left-hand drilling and an easy out.

I think I was just having a hard time understanding what I was looking at. Looking at Jimmy's picture above, (before I came here for help) I wasn't sure if the arrow was pointing at the top of the broken stud, or the bottom of the cylinder that the stud needed to screw into. Once I understood what I was looking at, it was easy-peasy.

    Thanks again everyone.
