Built one last year with 110,000 miles. Bought it knowing the head gasket was blown. It needed all things a Subaru will need at that mileage. Pulled the engine and did the full head job and all gaskets, seals, and hoses.

It was an interesting build and we got to have the Subaru experience. Put in all of the special Subaru coolant sauce. With an FJ25, FelPro gaskets are your friend.

Not too much activity at the Forester club. But lots of activity good ideas on the Outback club with a bunch of Forester people in there as well. Decided to move on and sold it for roughly a $400 loss after finishing the build. This was the first time that we have built a car and decided not to keep it.

I rented one of the gas models to use for a major sandblasting project roughly 10 years ago. It sure did a good job. That was before I bought the 29 gallon HF unit.

My son's GF bought a new Forester in the spring. They like it. IIRC Jatco designs/builds the their transmissions. I think they have enough experience from past generations to make CV work. The older Jatco trans were almost indestructible.

Well luckily I didn't have to weld this myself, have friends at a local Fab shop that love any excuse to bust out the high frequency TIG. But cast iron welds okay, ideally you preheat it so you aren't focusing heat and you use a filler with lots of nickle, it bonds well and is fairly ductile. And let it cool slowly and naturally, preferably by lowering the temp in an oven. If I didn't have friends with better equipment for the job, I'd have ground the cracks (they were ground for TIG too) and used a stick welder with a high nickle rod and gone to town, seen plenty of stick welded manifolds but that focuses heat even worse.

He ran it fast and hot, it's not pretty, but it's kinda what's necessary to get a solid root on cast

Guess I’m in the market for a towable compressor. Think I’ll let the cargo one go.

You also don't have a place to operate a towable compressor without complaints
