What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Was bored this morning so pulled the steering column out and put two tack welds on the slip joint as my steering had a very tiny bit of play. Figured why not? Took me about 45 minutes start to finish and I'm impressed at the results. My whole front end is rebuilt so my truck is rock solid but now its even better. Any input into the steering wheel and the tires are moving. I'm happy.

Welded the whole thing. No more issues. Lol. Crazy what a difference it makes

 

Do you have a salvage yard in the area where you can pick up a used one?

 

No idea, still new enough to Tucson I don't know where the salvage yards are. Fortunately, even though the air box was replaced by the PO of the truck, I had the original receipt and was able to get it replaced under warranty. Should have the new air box this afternoon.

Shower or heated water?

I've seen some unique setups on this forum. Myself, I bought a Frontrunner 45L water jug and portable sink for all my water needs; just need to fabricate a longer hose to connect the sink to the water supply but I'm considering heating the water as well.

 

For sure. The Dorman replacement is $328. Shop price was $255. Crazy expensive for a chunk of plastic made in China.

 

Wow.. I bought one of these from eBay back in April. It wasn't a perfect drop in because the mounting grommets were on backwards. After I flipped them to the correct side, its been ok. The old was was broken and cracking up.

Yes, I just built a base for it that ties into the stock ABS mounting points.

...From Avery, the IDBDR splits. Not for long - the two possible routes are separated only by the St. Joe River that runs between them - but each route has it's highlights. To the west, the road follows the old rail line through several tunnels. To the east, the road follows another rail line over several trestles.
We chose the west - and will forever wonder if we made the right call! The tunnels though were cool, and I'm sure either route is equally intriguing.

If I had more time and couldn't get it replaced under warranty, I'd go that route. I need the truck ASAP tho.

Yeah, I know. I'd rather have gone OEM but no way in hell I was gunna pay OEM price.

 

You can, but stock rims are only 7" wide so you need to run skinny tires. 255/85R16 are what you can run, basically. That's what I'm doing.

New FPR installed. I also replaced the rubber FI return hoses coming off it to the hard line on the fender. The FPR isn't a Denso like OEM but it's what I have for now and it has a lifetime warranty. Fortunately, they aren't that hard to get to now that I have remove the intake a couple times.



And this is where it sits until the replacement air box comes in this afternoon.

 

What kind of FPR did you get? If its Intermotor, it could very well be reboxed OEM.

 

Good to know, thanks! It is Intermotor, part # PR270 from O'Rielly's. The OEM one I removed was a Denso part so I assumed they would all have been.

 

Intermotor usually costs more than OEM from online. They are damn well worth it. I've been running Intermotor FPRs in Nissans for almost a decade without issue. Then for EGR valves, the Intermotor is the exact same Hitachi part that comes from the factory.
