You definitely don't need a table. It is an amazing tool. If the throat is not deep enough , cut it from both sides, still not deep enough cut what remains with a sawsall or grinder. I really don't think you would have a problem. The table addition is really for the smaller stuff. I don't have one.I do have 3 portabands though. 2 -110v, regular and mini and an 18 v. Couldn't imagine being without one.
